The calls were all from Catheleen.
She quickly dialed back, and the call was answered almost immediately.
"Cammie, have you contacted Paulina? I can't get ahold of him!"
"I sent him a message right after I left the club, but he hasn't replied," Camilla explained. "Don't panic, just tell me what's going on."
"I messaged him when I woke up this morning, and he didn't reply either. He left a bracelet at my place yesterday, and I said I'd return it to him. I've called him several times, but no one's picking up. I'm worried something might have happened to him."
"Okay," Camilla said, "do you know the manager of the club? Maybe we can check the security footage to see where he went last night. Try not to worry, Paulina is an adult. He knows how to handle himself."
"I already asked Faust. He said Paulina was drunk last night too and was resting at the club. According to the cameras, he left this morning."
"Then he's probably busy with something." Even as Camilla said this, she wasn't entirely convinced. "He'll message us back when he's done."
"I guess we just have to wait," Catheleen said. "If I still can't reach him, I'm going to call the police."
"Maybe you should ask Faust to help find his family's contact information first? We can't just call the police right away, can we?"
"Okay," Catheleen agreed. "I'll contact Faust now. Cammie, were you okay last night? Which room did you sleep in?"
As soon as Catheleen asked, Camilla's face flushed hot.
The memory of this drunken episode was much clearer than the one on the yacht.
Just thinking about it made her want to disappear from embarrassment.
And this was definitely something she couldn't let Catheleen know about.
She quickly said, "I don't know which room. I didn't pay attention."
"I only felt comfortable drinking yesterday because Lambert and Faust were there. I knew they'd take care of us. Cammie, you can't drink when you're alone from now on, okay?"
Camilla swore through gritted teeth, "Catheleen, I'm never drinking again. If I ever have another drink, I'm a complete moron! You have to hold me to it, okay?"
"Why? A little drink now and then is fine."
"No, I'm done drinking," Camilla said. "Mostly because… it feels awful afterward. I still have a headache."
It wasn't a physical discomfort.
But by evening, there was still no word from Paulina.
Camilla started to get anxious and called Catheleen.
"Cammie, I was just about to call you," Catheleen said. "Faust said he found him. He's at that bar we went to before. Do you want to come with me?"
"Yes!"
They didn't chat long. After hanging up, they rushed straight to the bar.
When they got there, they discovered that besides Faust, Lambert was there too.
Catheleen's heart sank.
She walked over, greeted Lambert first, then whispered to Faust, "Didn't I tell you not to tell Lambert? Are you a blabbermouth?"
Faust said, "When it comes to you, I don't dare keep things from him. Besides, if something had happened, I couldn't take that responsibility."
"What could have happened…" Catheleen turned and waved. "Cammie, over here!"
