Divorce Him, Then Dazzle novel Chapter 20

Lambert walked in from the far end of the deck, his phone pressed to his ear as he talked, completely lost in his conversation. It didn’t even look like he saw her at all.

Camilla was tucked away in a quiet, out-of-the-way corner, a spot where nobody would come looking for her. She hadn’t expected Lambert to show up here either.

Lambert looked just as surprised when he finally noticed her. He glanced up, and for a second, his steps faltered as he caught sight of her—standing there in that eye-catching blue dress.

Camilla's first reflex was to hide. Too bad there was absolutely nowhere she could go. Everything around her was in plain view, so she ended up just nodding politely and greeting him. “Mr. White.”

She thought about it for a second. Calling him Mr. White still felt the safest.

Lambert slipped his phone into his pocket and looked at her with those deep, unreadable eyes. “Still can’t remember, huh?”

Camilla blinked, completely thrown off. “What?”

She honestly had no idea what he was talking about.

Lambert leaned against the railing, leaving a comfortable two meters between them.

Today was one of those rare, perfect days—the sky was clear, the sun was bright, and the horizon blurred where the ocean met the sky.

He looked out at the water, not at her, and said, “Are you having fun?”

The real answer was no, not really.

But Camilla didn’t want to offend their host, so she forced a smile. “Yeah, I am.”

He asked, “Do you like the ocean?”

This time, Camilla nodded, putting a little more effort into it. “I do. I really do.”

Lambert finally glanced over at her. “Alright, that’s good. Enjoy yourself. If there’s anything we didn’t do well enough, I hope you’ll let it slide. Make yourself at home.”

As soon as he finished speaking, he turned and started to walk away.

Camilla watched him walk away, and hated how effortless he made it look—like the world simply moved aside for him. There was an effortless power in the way he moved, something she’d never seen in any of those guys online who tried too hard to show off. He didn’t need to try at all.

Just as she was getting lost in thought, he turned around suddenly.

It hit her a beat too late that she’d been staring—openly, obviously. Way too obvious. And totally not polite.

“I really can’t.” Camilla shook her head and kept her hands at her sides. “I’m a total lightweight. I already had half a glass earlier. If I drink any more, I’ll end up tipsy.”

Daniel grinned. “So what if you get tipsy? I’m here.”

Camilla narrowed her eyes at him. “Why did you leave me with that guy earlier? Did you even think about what he wanted?”

Daniel looked a little guilty, avoiding her eyes.

He let out a weak laugh. “Owen’s just that way, you know. He likes to mess around. You don’t have to take him seriously. I mean, what could he possibly do to you with all these people around?”

Camilla wasn't sure if she believed him, but she decided to let it go. “Are you sure?”

“I’m sure.” Daniel finally met her gaze and gently pushed the glass into her hands. “Barbie cares about you so much. If anything ever happened, how would I face her?”

That actually convinced her. When Barbara was involved, Daniel always took things seriously.

Camilla asked, “So when can we leave?”

“The yacht just pulled away from shore, so we’ve got to stick it out for a while. Getting back isn’t up to us.” Daniel clinked his glass against hers with a little smile. “Come on, just keep me company for a drink. I promise, even if you get drunk, there’s a lounge where you can rest.”
