Camilla pointed out gently, "But you mentioned you'll eventually have an arranged marriage. Won't he have to do the same?"
Catheleen paused. She hadn't actually considered that until now.
"Maybe... yeah, I'm not really sure."
Realistically, Lambert was the heir to the family empire. Every generation before him had married for business alliances.
Camilla smiled knowingly.
In that instant, reality crashed down on Catheleen.
She realized she had no business trying to play matchmaker!
If Lambert was destined for an arranged marriage, what would happen to Camilla?
Would he just dump her when the time came, or worse, keep her hidden away as a mistress?
Catheleen couldn't stomach either option.
Furious on her friend's behalf, she hooked her arm through Camilla's. "Cammie, I totally support you! Whatever you decide, I am on your side!"
"Catheleen, get in here," Lambert's voice rang out from the kitchen.
"Go back to your room, I'll call you when the food is ready!" Catheleen whispered before jogging toward the kitchen. "Coming!"
Even though Camilla wanted to minimize contact with him, it felt rude to hide in her room while he cooked in her new apartment.
As Catheleen entered the kitchen, Lambert glanced over his shoulder. "What were you two whispering about?"
"Nothing!" Catheleen said, feeling incredibly guilty.
She had firmly decided to switch her allegiance to Camilla.
As for her cousin? He was on his own.
She had initially thought he was genuinely serious about Camilla, assuming it would lead to marriage.
But Camilla's comment brought her back to reality.
If Lambert was just looking for a casual fling, that was absolutely despicable.
