Was he some sort of terrifying monster?
Why was she so frightened of him?
Just days ago, she had promised not to avoid him, and yet here she was, already going back on her word.
The worst part was, he couldn't do a damn thing about it.
It made sense for Catheleen to be a little intimidated by him.
He was naturally strict with her, and when she messed up, Lambert never hesitated to reprimand her.
But Lambert prided himself on always being gentle and thoroughly polite when it came to Camilla.
What exactly was she afraid of?
How could he prove to her that she was safe with him?
He finally navigated his way through the tense dinner. Just as he was about to bring up the fitting, Camilla's phone rang.
She practically jumped at the excuse. "Susan, I need to take this."
The way she bolted from the room practically screamed desperation.
Susan noticed it too. "Is Cammie a little afraid of you?"
Lambert pulled his gaze from the hallway and gave a low sigh. "Yeah."
"Oh, Lambert," Susan chastised softly. "You have so many wonderful qualities, but you're just too quiet. Girls want someone warm and inviting. She's not one of your corporate employees. Stop looking so stern around her."
Lambert felt a rare flash of defensiveness. "I wasn't..."
Honestly, he felt he was already being as tender as humanly possible around Camilla.
The problem was, he was terrified that if he was too forward, she would bolt for good.
This was the first time he had ever truly wanted a woman, and he feared that if he unleashed the full force of his desire, he wouldn't be able to reel it back in.
"Cammie is incredibly kind and gentle, but she guards her heart carefully. Don't rush her. Take everything slow, understand?"
With her years of life experience, Susan read the situation perfectly.
Lambert accepted the advice humbly. "I'll remember that."
Meanwhile, Camilla was answering a call from Catheleen.
Catheleen had misplaced a diamond bracelet and was frantically asking if Camilla had seen it.
