In a moment of sheer panic, she had actually shouted his full name.
"Mr. White, Mr. White..." Lambert murmured, tasting the words. "There are thousands of people with the last name White. How was I supposed to know which one you were calling?"
Camilla scrambled to clarify, "I've only ever called one person that."
Lambert raised an eyebrow. "So, it's my exclusive... pet name?"
Even though she had only used it for him, she certainly hadn't intended to give him an exclusive title.
And hearing him say it like that gave the words a sudden, breathless intimacy.
Where on earth was Catheleen?
Camilla shook her head frantically. "No... it's just that I didn't know what else to call you."
"Didn't I tell you before? You could just call me what Catheleen calls me."
"That would be entirely inappropriate." Camilla checked her phone. "I'm going to call her and see what's taking so long."
"Don't bother," Lambert said smoothly. "Until we clear the air, she's not coming back."
Camilla frowned. "I don't think there's anything left to clear up between us."
"The topic of why you hate me," Lambert countered. "And what you're going to call me moving forward."
Camilla tried to lay it out as plainly as possible. "I believe I have the right to like or hate whoever I choose. Liking someone doesn't require a reason, and neither does hating them. As for what to call you... if you think 'Mr. White' isn't suitable, I can call you 'Boss' instead. Would that work?"
That was even worse.
Lambert's displeasure was obvious. "What's wrong with calling me by my name like Catheleen does?"
Camilla held her ground. "You are her cousin. You are not mine."
"It's just a name..."
"Exactly, it's just a name. So why is 'Mr. White' such a problem?"
Lambert watched her red lips part and close. He had never noticed how exceptionally sharp-tongued she could be.
