Lambert spotted her instantly.

Catheleen was still slurring her words. "...You need to actually get to know that Jeanette woman before you get engaged to her..."

Before she could finish, Lambert shoved the door open and stepped out.

She gave a confused noise and straightened up, finally noticing Camilla.

"Cammie!"

She waved excitedly and tried to walk over, but her body swayed dangerously, nearly sending her to the pavement.

Camilla sprinted over to catch her. "Careful."

Catheleen slumped most of her weight against Camilla, giggling foolishly.

Lambert strode over, grabbing Catheleen by the arm and hauling her out of Camilla's embrace. "Stand up straight."

Her ingrained fear of him made her snap to attention instinctively, but a second later, she pitched sideways again.

She had absolutely zero control over her limbs.

Camilla caught her again. She kept her eyes averted from Lambert, but spoke up firmly. "Do you need anything else, Mr. White? If not, I'm taking her upstairs."

"I do." Lambert stared at her, unwilling to even blink. "I'll have someone carry her up. You're getting in the car."

"I was asking if you needed anything else from Catheleen. As for me... I have absolutely nothing to say to you."

Without waiting for a response, she adjusted her grip on Catheleen and walked away.

"Camilla."

Lambert called her name from behind.

Camilla's steps faltered for a fraction of a second before she pressed forward, continuing her retreat.

Lambert subconsciously took two steps after her, but ultimately forced himself to stop.

He could only watch helplessly as Camilla guided Catheleen into the building.

Only after a long, indeterminate silence did he finally get back into his car and drive away.

Upstairs, Camilla managed to wrestle Catheleen into bed, stripping off her outer clothes and carefully removing her makeup.

Catheleen was still completely delirious, entirely incapable of opening her eyes, yet her mouth kept running a mile a minute.

"Cammie, that Jeanette girl is so annoying!"

"My brother is blind! He has to be blind!"

"Oh, and he also said the rumors about him marrying her are false."
