Divorce Him, Then Dazzle novel Chapter 295

Knowing she was finally being discharged, Camilla let out a massive sigh of relief. Staying in the hospital was agonizing enough, but being forced into constant isolation with Lambert was pure torture. Not to mention the month-long hand-holding agreement she had foolishly consented to. As long as he was in her hospital room and his hands were empty, his fingers were inextricably linked with hers. Camilla was too flustered to even glance his way. She stared at the ceiling, the floor, the bedside table, the blanket—anywhere but at Lambert's face. What made Camilla squirm even more was that Lambert made zero effort to hide their contact when the medical staff came in for rounds. He simply kept his grip firm and steady. The painful reminder that she wasn't officially divorced yet made this entire illicit dynamic feel incredibly shameful. She wanted to crawl under a rock. The morning before her discharge, a nurse came in bright and early to draw blood. Lambert hadn't left for the office yet. He sat right on the edge of the bed, wrapping a protective arm around Camilla's shoulders and tucking her securely against his chest. As the nurse secured the Tourniquet, Lambert instructed smoothly, "She's afraid of pain. Be gentle, please." The nurse offered a warm smile. "You two are so sweet together. It's truly enviable." Camilla wanted the ground to open up and swallow her whole. She usually hated needles, but this time, sheer embarrassment completely eclipsed her fear. Nestled safely in Lambert's embrace, surrounded by his crisp, clean scent, she barely even registered the prick of the needle. By the time she was discharged, everyone from the Head of Department down to the cleaning lady knew about the wildly devoted couple who couldn't bear to let go of each other's hands. So, leaving the hospital felt like absolute liberation for Camilla. Who could have guessed that halfway home, Catheleen would call to announce a fire in their building. When Lambert bluntly stated they were going to his place, Camilla panicked. "I'm not going!" "You're not going?" They were sitting together in the back seat, and Lambert was, naturally, still holding her hand. "If you don't stay at my place, where else are you going to go?" "I'll book a hotel," Camilla insisted. "Don't be ridiculous," Lambert shot back. "You were just discharged. You need proper rest and recovery. A hotel isn't suitable." "I can rest perfectly fine in a hotel." "And what are you going to eat?" "Hotels have room service..." "The doctor specifically ordered a clean, nutrient-dense diet. Do you honestly think random hotel food meets that standard?" Camilla argued, "But you brought me takeout from restaurants while I was in the hospital." "Do you have any idea who the Master Chef preparing those meals was? He barely steps into a kitchen for anyone these days. You're comparing a world-class culinary expert to a standard hotel line cook?" Frustrated, Camilla snapped, "I live a completely ordinary life. I don't normally eat meals prepared by world-class chefs. Staying in a hotel and eating normal food won't kill me..." Lambert stared at her for a long moment, then abruptly released her hand. A sudden chill swept over the back of Camilla's hand, leaving her momentarily stunned. She heard Lambert coldly instruct the driver, "Find the nearest hotel." He had finally compromised, yet for some inexplicable reason, Camilla felt zero victory. The sudden absence of his warmth... She quickly pulled her hand back, turning her gaze out the window as a sudden, suffocating lump formed in her throat. The car merged smoothly into traffic, slipping into the left-turn lane at the upcoming intersection. The rhythmic click of the turn signal filled the silence. The heavy tension in the back seat was suffocating, punctuated only by the steady clicking. It felt as if a massive boulder had settled right over Camilla's chest, weighing her down with a confusing sense of loss. Thirty-five seconds left on the red light. Camilla's eyes burned. She blinked rapidly, her lashes dampening with unshed tears. She hastily shifted her body toward the right, pressing herself closer to the cold glass of the window. She felt completely ridiculous. Why did she suddenly feel the urge to cry over something so stupid? The light turned green, and the car accelerated. The driver was a seasoned professional; the movement was incredibly smooth.
