Divorce Him, Then Dazzle novel Chapter 39

Ever since Barbara was brought back, her life had been as close to perfect as she could hope for. She had parents who were both respected university professors. She had a circle of friends—most of them poached straight from Camilla. Nothing ever seemed to get in her way.

She got along with everyone, and everyone seemed happy to play by her rules. People listened, they followed her lead, and she always felt one step ahead.

But now, for the first time, things felt like they were slipping out of her hands. Daniel was acting up. Camilla wasn’t so easy to manage anymore. Barbara clicked off the call and sat back, chewing it over. She needed a plan.

She couldn’t afford to let her guard down with Lambert, not now. Everything was so close to falling into place—she just needed one last push, one well-timed move to get Lambert to finally confess. Once she locked down that relationship, her return to her home country would be smooth sailing.

Barbara already knew what needed to be done. If she wanted Lambert to make a move, she’d have to use a trick that always worked. Men were wired for competition. Give them a reason to feel some pressure, and their instincts kicked in like clockwork.

Without hesitating, she pulled out her phone and sent a quick message to someone named “W.”

Across the world, Faust found himself in Lambert’s office again.

He honestly hadn’t planned on seeing Lambert after the yacht trip. The guy was basically a human ice cube, and Faust could only handle that sort of chill for so long. Unfortunately, work was work, and their two companies had a project that needed both their attention, dragging Faust all the way to DS Group Tower.

Business wrapped up quickly, but Faust’s curiosity couldn’t stay bottled up. Usually, he couldn’t care less about gossip, but this was Lambert. Lambert! The man seemed immune to everything—emotions, beautiful women, anything remotely human, really. Faust still remembered shaking his head over how Lambert didn’t even blink for a knockout like Camilla. He was convinced the guy was some zen monk who’d given up worldly desires.

Clearly, he’d been wrong. So wrong.

Reality had smacked him upside the head. Whatever Lambert looked like on the outside—cool, calm, untouchable—Faust now realized he was probably hiding all kinds of inner chaos. The more he thought about it, the more he wanted answers.

“So… you and Camilla. What’s the story?” Faust couldn’t even pretend not to care.

And even Lambert could fall head over heels in secret?

Faust wanted to press, but Lambert shot him a look. “If you’re so free, maybe you should head out and help Owen with the new project.”

He winced at the idea. Owen was already sent overseas last night and Faust had zero interest in flying out to some far-flung outpost. He threw up his hands. “Alright, I’ll drop it. But seriously, what are you going to do next?”

Lambert didn’t miss a beat. “Just focus on your own problems.”

Faust could tell he wasn’t getting anything else out of him, so he backed off. As he reached the door, Lambert called after him. “And don’t bother her.”

Faust grinned, hand on the knob. “Wouldn’t dream of it. She’s all yours. Good luck, man—I’ll be waiting to hear some good news.”
