Camilla took a moment to think, then agreed on a time to meet him.

She got there early, stomach tight with nerves. Before Daniel arrived, she clicked record on her phone, just in case he tried to deny anything. If he refused to cooperate, at least there’d be proof.

When Daniel spotted her, a rush of guilt hit him hard.

No matter what excuses he made, Camilla was the one who got hurt.

He barely sat down before he started apologizing. “Camilla, I know I was wrong. I hope you can forgive me.”

Camilla hadn’t slept at all last night. Her face looked drawn and pale. She kept telling herself not to cry, but the tears came anyway, slipping down her cheeks until her eyes were swollen.

Still, she looked at him with a coldness that made his apology feel pointless.

She said, “I’m never going to forgive you. Not ever. Daniel, if you were even a little human, you couldn’t have done something like this.”

Hearing her like that, Daniel felt his own frustration bubbling over. “Do you think I wanted any of this? Am I that type of person? If he hadn’t threatened me and thrown money in my face, I never would’ve done it! Do you want me to go bankrupt? Is that what you want, for my family’s company to collapse?”

“So your answer was to send me to another man’s bed? What he did is rape. What you did is drug me and help him do it.”

“Camilla,” Daniel said, face tight. “Don’t call it that. It’s done. I can’t undo it—and I didn’t have a choice.”

“Don’t bother,” Camilla cut him off. “After this, I can’t live with you anymore. You gave me away like I was nothing. What if next time you try to kill me?”

“How can you say that?” Daniel practically snapped. “If you want a divorce, fine, but you deal with your parents. And any business losses my company suffers because of the divorce, you handle that.”

“Daniel, how can you be so shameless?” Camilla was stunned and disgusted. “You did this. You’re the one at fault. Why should I feel grateful just because I’m your wife and you haven’t divorced me yet?”

Daniel said, “You know how much power and money he has. If you go with him, your whole life will change…”

“I am your wife.” Camilla’s voice shook, her eyes red. “How could you say something so heartless?”

“But I never really thought of you as my wife…”

Daniel hesitated.

Barbara was right about one thing. A lot was at stake. He couldn’t get divorced yet.

He finally said, “I’ll divorce you, but not now.”

Camilla looked at him. “When, then?”

“I need time to figure things out. Camilla, just don’t tell our parents about any of this, okay? Otherwise…” His face tightened with worry. “Otherwise, it won’t be good for either of us. You don’t want everyone knowing, do you?”

“Give me a real date,” Camilla said. “A week, ten days, how long?”

“I can’t promise anything…”

This time, Camilla stood her ground. She wasn’t backing down.
