He finally exhaled when he was sure she was physically okay.
“If I had done it, I’d admit it,” he told her. “But I didn’t. If you call the cops on me, wouldn’t that be completely unfair?”
Camilla didn’t say a word.
He glanced at her. “You don’t have to take my word for it—get checked, and you’ll know.”
“Just stop. Ugh!” Camilla snatched a throw pillow from the sofa and chucked it at him, then immediately took off running.
Lambert caught the pillow without even trying, watching as she escaped as fast as she could. Was she always this easy to embarrass?
Right then, Lambert had no idea what he was really in for with Camilla.
But Camilla knew. She realized she’d started to recoil from any kind of touch from a man. Even after Lambert explained everything, she still couldn’t shake off the feeling left behind. She believed him, though. The kind of guy he was, he wouldn’t bother making up lies just to explain himself. Really, what was the point? On top of that, her body’s own reactions told her Lambert hadn’t taken advantage of her. If anything, he’d saved her.
Honestly, she hated Daniel way more than she ever hated Lambert. Daniel was the one who treated her like some disposable thing he could hand off to someone else.
She’d already asked Latonia for advice. Turns out, even though Daniel’s actions were disgusting, technically he hadn’t committed a crime. There was no proof he’d drugged her and her word alone wasn’t enough for a case. Taking down Daniel would be even tougher than pressing charges against Lambert.
Now that she knew the truth, Camilla let go of any thoughts of getting the police involved. But the marriage? That was over. She wasn’t spending another minute with someone like Daniel.
She didn’t hesitate anymore. After washing up and changing into fresh clothes, she headed back to the Greens'.
