Divorce Him, Then Dazzle novel Chapter 51

Lambert exhaled slowly.

He asked, “You’ve never actually been through something like this before, have you?”

Heat rushed into Camilla’s cheeks.

She could barely meet his eyes, bristling with embarrassment and anger. “What do you want from me? Don’t push your luck.”

Faust had told him Daniel never touched Camilla.

When Lambert first heard it, he couldn’t believe it.

But seeing Camilla’s reaction now, it was probably true.

Something tightened in Lambert’s chest as he looked at her—three years, and she’d been alone the entire time. He used to think she must be happy after getting married. But Daniel loved someone else and had never even touched her. What had those years been like for her?

At the same time, a small, selfish part of him felt relieved. Maybe even a little pleased. It was a feeling he wasn’t proud of, but he couldn’t help it. Still, more than anything, he just felt sorry for her.

He looked at her, his eyes deep and impossible to read, the storm in them hidden away. “I want you to be clear on this,” Lambert said. “I did not have sex with you.” His tone was quiet, steady. “I did hold you, and I did kiss you,” he said. “If that crossed a line, I own that. But if you’re talking about anything past that, it didn’t happen. I won’t confess to something I didn’t do. But I’m not pretending I handled it perfectly, either.”

Camilla stared at him, trying to process what he said.

It took her a few seconds to make sense of it. She struggled to get the words out, voice hoarse. “You… you mean…”

She couldn’t finish her thought.

There was no one else around. No matter how awkward, this had to be cleared up.

Lambert didn’t want her to hate him over a misunderstanding.

He said, “Let me explain what happened that night. You might be uncomfortable with it, but I need you to know the truth.”

Camilla shot him a look.

He didn’t answer right away. There really wasn’t any good excuse.

He finally said, “I shouldn’t have kissed you,” he said, voice controlled. “That was crossing a boundary when you couldn’t consent. If you want to call the police, it probably wouldn’t be enough for a real case.”

“Who’s to say you’re telling the truth anyway…” Camilla’s words came out, but it was half-hearted.

She knew deep down Lambert wasn’t the kind of man who needed to lie. And she knew her own body. Even without experience, she understood what she would’ve felt if something had truly happened. Nothing had changed.

Nothing had happened to her body the way she’d feared.

“If you don’t believe me,” he said, gaze steady, “ask your doctor.”

Her face flushed bright red. “What are you even saying? You…”

Lambert almost smiled, watching her flare up in embarrassment. For a moment, she looked more alive than she had in a long time.
