Camilla just smiled and ended the call without another word.

When Barbara called again, Camilla ignored it.

Barbara was so frustrated she dialed Daniel straight away. “Whatever you do, you can’t get divorced!”

Daniel sounded patient. “Barbie, you’re right. A divorce would cause all kinds of problems, especially for the company’s stocks. The board would be all over me.”

“As long as you get it,” Barbara said. “You need to go apologize to Camilla and get her to forgive you. She may have her faults, and yeah, after everything that’s happened… but you know deep down, she’s always loved you. Just show her a little kindness to get through this rough patch. She deserves at least that much pity.”

Daniel was quick to agree. “Alright, I got it. But Barbie, you need to remember, you’re the only one I care about. Even if I’m nice to her, it’s only for you.”

Barbara let him adore her, but played the humble martyr. “Daniel, don’t say that. We’ll never have a future. It’s my fault. If there’s a next life... maybe then I can make it up to you.”

She finished with a shaky sniff.

Daniel immediately melted. “Barbie, don’t talk like that. You haven’t done anything wrong. It’s me, I’m not good enough. Please don’t cry. I’ll do whatever you say.”

After Camilla got back to Catheleen’s place, it didn’t take long for someone to knock on the door.

She knew it wasn’t Catheleen. Catheleen had already called to say she wouldn’t be home till tomorrow.

Camilla didn’t open the door. She just stepped close and called out, “Who is it?”

“It’s me, Camilla. Open up,” Daniel answered from the other side.

Camilla paused to think. “I can keep things quiet. If you don’t want people to know, I’ll cooperate.”

“How can you possibly keep this secret? Something like this won’t stay hidden.”

Camilla faced him calmly. “You really think there’s any point in staying married? Daniel, you handed me over to another man. How can you even ask me to keep pretending?”

“I told you, I had no choice. Why can’t you let it go?”

“You nearly killed me, Daniel. Now you think saying sorry is enough for me to forgive you?”

Daniel’s frustration was obvious. “So what do you want?”

Camilla didn’t hesitate. “I want a divorce. If you refuse, fine. I’ll take everything public and let’s see what ruins your company more, the scandal of our divorce or everyone learning just how rotten you actually are.”
