"Are you out of your mind?"
Daniel was so furious he almost chucked the flowers he was holding.
"Forget about what this does to me. Have you even thought about how embarrassing this is? You go public with this story, how do you think people will look at you? Everyone will talk behind your back, saying you’ve slept with another man…"
"And whose fault is that?" Camilla stared him down, her voice icy. "My conscience is clear. Even if people talk, that’s not on me. If getting rid of you means I pay a price, so be it, I’ll take it."
"You…" Daniel sucked in a deep breath, struggling to get a grip on his temper. "Camilla, be reasonable. We can’t let anyone find out about this!"
Camilla just gave him a little laugh.
Trying to calm himself, Daniel said, "Look, you married me for a reason, right? You wanted a life with me, to be happy together. So let’s just do that, okay? We can start over. I’ll treat you right, I promise. You won’t regret it."
"Too late," Camilla replied, her voice flat. "I’m the one who can’t do this anymore. I want a divorce, Daniel. It’s happening. You get to decide. Either you accept it and come with me to sign the papers, or you make a scene and we still end up divorced. Your call."
"Why are you being so stubborn? You leave me, your reputation takes a hit too. What do you even get out of that?"
"As long as I can get away from you, I don’t care about anything else." Camilla looked at him, seriously wondering how she could've been so blind before.
"What do you want from me? Look, as long as you’re not being ridiculous, I’ll agree to whatever you ask. Is that good enough?"
"My terms are simple. I want a divorce. That’s it."
"Camilla!"
Daniel was barely holding himself together now.
That one decision on the yacht was coming back to haunt him, leaving him exhausted and desperate.
Camilla wanted out. Fine. But what about him? Shouldn't he at least get something from this mess?
He tried calling Owen but couldn’t get through.
What the hell? The guy sleeps with his wife, then just disappears, like nothing ever happened?
Daniel wasn’t done. "No matter what, he took advantage of you. You want to just let him get away with it? He really knows how to play, huh?"
Camilla finally saw him for who he was.
She said, "So what if he contacted me? And what if he didn’t?"
Daniel pressed on, "If he reached out, what did he say? Why can’t I get through to him? And if he didn’t, I’ll go with you, and we’ll find him together. He slept with you, Camilla. He can’t just disappear like that."
"Go find him and then what?"
"Of course he has to compensate you for the damage! If he’s a real man, he’ll do it. You deserve that much!"
"Daniel, I can’t believe you’re saying this. Are you seriously trying to trade your wife for compensation?"
"Don’t make it sound so ugly." Daniel’s face twisted, embarrassed and defensive. "What choice do I have? Since this happened, shouldn’t we at least do whatever we can to minimize the damage?"
