Outside the door, Latonia caught Catheleen just as she was about to storm in.
“Catheleen, trust me, Lambert’s not going to do anything to her.”
“But what’s he up to?” Catheleen was almost panicking. “Latonia, Camilla’s my best friend. I’m not about to let him mess with her.”
Latonia let out a sigh. “Do you really think Lambert’s that kind of guy?”
“He might not have been before, but come on, Cammie’s gorgeous. Who knows if he’s the type to get distracted by a pretty face?”
Latonia shook her head and tapped Catheleen’s forehead lightly. “Seriously? Lambert’s met every kind of beautiful woman. Do you think he picks people based on looks?”
“Then what’s he doing? If he isn’t into Camilla, why is he coming out for dinner with us and then insisting on talking to her one-on-one?”
Latonia shrugged. “I just think you need to trust that Lambert knows where to draw the line.”
“Cammie’s married!” Catheleen couldn’t help raising her voice. “What he’s doing is just not right.”
“But isn’t she getting a divorce?”
“She isn’t divorced yet, is she?”
Latonia smiled, trying to calm her friend down. “Look, let’s stop overthinking it. Maybe Lambert really doesn’t mean anything by it. I promise, he won’t do anything to Cammie. Just chill for a bit.”
Catheleen’s worry didn’t fade. “But he’s not going to hurt her, right?”
“How could he hurt her?” Latonia replied. “He helped her when it mattered,” Latonia said firmly. “That’s what I’m choosing to judge him on.”
“Latonia!” Catheleen stomped her foot in frustration. “You’re being ridiculous.”
Latonia started explaining. “Remember on the yacht, when Camilla was in trouble? Lambert was the one who stepped in to help. If he really wanted to take advantage, back then Camilla wasn’t even thinking straight. Wouldn’t that have been easier for him?”
“Lambert isn’t that type of person.”
Once enough time had passed, Latonia took Catheleen back into the private room.
Lambert had just exchanged contacts with Camilla and was slipping his phone into his pocket.
Catheleen sat down, eyes shining with anticipation. “So, Lambert, what did you two talk about?”
“I just asked her for a thank-you gift,” Lambert said, calm as ever.
Catheleen’s eyes got huge. “A thank-you gift? For what?”
Lambert glanced at Camilla.
Camilla jumped in before he could say anything. “Mr. White helped me out, so I’m going to design and make a piece of clothing for him as a thank you.”
Catheleen’s whole face lit up with relief. “Oh, that’s it? Lambert, you’re in luck. The clothes Cammie designs are honestly amazing.”
