Camilla and Daniel had been married for three years. Not once had they shared a room. The house the Whites had paid for was far bigger than the two of them ever needed, and it had never once felt like home. Camilla had lived there this whole time, yet it never felt like home.
Three years. That was how long she wasted her youth, drifting through life with Daniel. Looking back, she realized how sad, ridiculous, and pathetic it was. All she wanted now was to end it, sign the papers, and get as far away from him as possible. She needed a fresh start.
When she got back to the house that day, she didn’t bother using her key. Ever since Daniel had shown his true colors, she refused to see this place as her home. Instead, she knocked. The door opened almost immediately.
Daniel appeared in the doorway, scowling. “You’ve been gone for days. What’s the deal? Forgot the code? Don’t remember how the fingerprint scanner works now?”
Camilla faced him, her voice calm. “This isn’t my house. After the divorce, it wouldn’t be right for me to just walk in.”
Daniel’s frown only deepened. He moved aside, giving her space to enter. “Come in,” he muttered.
Camilla didn’t even pause. She walked right in and got straight to business. “Have you thought about the divorce? When do you want to go finalize it?”
Daniel grabbed a drink from the fridge and set it on the table in front of her. “What’s the rush? We’ve been married three years. Are you really that desperate to leave?”
He sat down next to her. Almost immediately, Camilla got up and moved to the far side of the room.
Daniel stared at her, bewildered. “What’s that supposed to mean? Why are you avoiding me?”
Camilla swallowed hard, clearing the nausea from her throat. Her face gave away nothing. “We’re about to be divorced. It’s better if we keep some space.”
Daniel let out an annoyed laugh. “So, you’re done trying to seduce me now?”
Camilla looked at him like he’d lost his mind. “When did I ever try to seduce you?”
Daniel’s tone was sharp. “You’re seriously denying it? All the things you did just to get my attention, weren’t you trying to seduce me?”
“Oh, I’m disgusting? Fine. I’ll be disgusting today.” Daniel reached out for her again. “I told you, we can work this out. What more do you want?”
“I don’t want to work things out with you!” Camilla shot back. “If you’re not serious about the divorce, then I have nothing else to say to you.” She turned to leave.
“Stop!” Daniel yelled, and before she could react, he wrapped his arms tightly around her from behind.
For a second, Daniel expected to feel nothing. But holding her, something unexpected stirred inside him.
“I told you, I’m not holding this against you.” His tone softened, almost pleading. “Camilla, let’s start over… Be real husband and wife, okay?”
A wave of disgust rose up in Camilla. With all her strength, she fought to break free. “Let go! What are you doing? Let me go!”
“Why can’t I touch you? You’re still my wife!”
