Divorce Him, Then Dazzle novel Chapter 75

“Did you shower? Did you put on the ointment?” Latonia asked.

“I did,” Camilla replied quickly, giving a sideways glance toward the kitchen.

Latonia caught her nerves and smiled. “He lives nearby. Sometimes he comes over to cook. We’re basically meal buddies, believe it or not.”

That explanation seemed to settle Camilla. “Oh, got it.”

Latonia grinned. “Just wait until you try Lambert’s food. You relax, I’ll drop this in the kitchen.”

In the kitchen, she lowered her voice. “I talked you up big-time out there. Told her you cook for me all the time and you’re amazing at it. Don’t let me down, okay?”

“You really know how to spin a story,” Lambert teased.

“I know. It’s exhausting. Honestly, my brain is fried after covering for you and Camilla these past few times.”

“Eat more later. Recharge those brain cells. No need to hang around here. Go keep her company,” Lambert said.

Latonia smirked and headed back to the living room.

When a guy like him got serious, who could say no? He wasn’t just rich and powerful—he was handsome and interesting, too. Someone like him belonged at the top, out of reach. But here he was, cooking in a friend’s kitchen, trying to make someone feel at home. How could anyone not be moved by that?

But the girl in question was Camilla. She’d been through so much pain, so many hardships. Latonia felt a wave of tenderness for her.

She was a lawyer and prided herself on reading people well. With some gentle conversation, she soon got Camilla to let down her guard, even coaxed a shy smile onto her face.

Lambert came out with a tray and caught sight of the soft dimple that appeared in Camilla’s cheek.

“Dinner’s ready.”

“I can do it myself…” Camilla mumbled.

Lambert just held the bowl steady, waiting.

Latonia chuckled. “You’re the guest. Guests don’t serve themselves here. Take it—Lambert always serves me soup, too.”

Good grief, Latonia thought, the lies were piling up tonight. If she wasn’t careful, she’d wake up looking like Pinocchio.

Still, if Camilla kept refusing, she’d just seem awkward and fussy. So she accepted with both hands and murmured, “Thank you.”

Lambert watched her. “See if you like it.”

Camilla dropped her gaze and took a small sip.
