Draven stood with his back to Ayla, so when Troy turned his head, he could see her clearly.

Maybe it was because he had just thrown a punch at the person he hated most, but the anger in his chest finally eased. Troy’s voice came out colder and steadier than before. “Ayla, I need to talk to him. Stay back.”

Ayla didn’t listen to Troy.

Not until Draven spoke. “Wait for me in my car.”

Then he added, “I’m done fighting.”

Ayla trusted him. If Draven said he was finished, he probably was.

Draven and Troy had known each other since they were kids. More than 20 years of grudges and tangled history sat between them. The depth of their hate was something only the two of them understood. Ayla had no idea what really existed between them.

She never assumed they were fighting because of her. In fact, she was sure this had very little to do with her at all.

Between the two men-one was her distant, unreadable boss, and the other was her fresh-out-the- courthouse ex-husband she never wanted to see again—she had no power to manage any of it. She took a steady breath and walked off to find Draven’s car.

Their fight had nothing to do with her, but she was the spark that made it explode.

So, she decided to wait until Draven finished talking.

Troy watched Ayla follow Draven’s words without hesitation. His expression turned even darker, and the hatred burning in his chest nearly burst. He gritted out, “Draven, if you dare lay a hand on Ayla, I’ll never let you go. Not in this lifetime!”

Compared to Troy’s rage, Draven barely reacted. His face was flushed from adrenaline, but his eyes were cold, as if nothing in the world mattered to him. He stated the truth without emotion. “You two are divorced.”

The words stabbed right into Troy’s sore spot. His face twisted, and he asked coldly, “You’ve been waiting for this day, haven’t you?”

Troy had hated Draven since they were boys. Because of Draven, his mother was always upset. She always pushed Troy to study harder, to beat Draven, or she wouldn’t even look at him kindly. His childhood held no happy memories.

Martin was supposed to be his grandfather, but he spent all his time with a bastard.

His father was even worse. He hurt Troy’s mother without apology, then favored Draven, treating Troy like he was never good enough.

What had Troy ever done wrong?

He excelled at everything. No one around him ever outperformed him. But because Draven existed, Troy could never be first. Because Draven existed, he could never earn his parents’ approval.

His life should have been smooth and perfect. But Draven appeared and ruined every part of it.

Troy hated him from the bottom of his heart. Draven’s existence was the reason Troy’s life hurt so much.

Of course Troy could not accept Ayla being anywhere near Draven.

Troy now hated Ayla too. In his mind, she had played him through their entire marriage. Even if there had to be a divorce someday, it should’ve been his choice, his decision to walk away. Not hers. Not like this, not so fast, not like she couldn’t wait another second to leave him. She didn’t have the right. Not in his world.

How could Ayla just let go of everything between them and say she was done? Troy wouldn’t allow it.

Only now did he realize Ayla actually had a backbone.

Both of them-Ayla and Draven-were people he would never forget.

And because of that, they couldn’t stay together in front of him. Not even for a moment.

Troy had always known Draven was an arrogant, untouchable type. As kids, no matter how Troy provoked him, pushed him, or tried to get a reaction, Draven never cared. He was nothing like a normal child-cold, detached, and emotionless.

Because Troy knew exactly what kind of person Draven was, he didn’t believe for one second that Draven came here for Ayla.

That couldn’t be real. He needed to ask.

He had to know.

Draven saw the hate burning in Troy’s eyes. And he remembered something. Three years ago, on the beach, when he had seen Troy pull Ayla from the water.

Back then, Draven hadn’t been the lucky one. But now? Luck had finally moved to his side.

He knew Troy would never believe he came because of Ayla.

But that was the truth.

Why else would he be here?

Draven tightened his grip on Troy’s collar. If Ayla had been present, she would’ve noticed something terrifying: his usually calm, noble eyes were filled with wild, consuming possession. No restraint. No gentleness. Just hunger. Just claim. A darkness he never showed in front of her. He didn’t give Troy a way out. “You guessed it right,” Draven said.

Troy froze for a second or two. Then his face twisted, and fury stormed into his eyes. His voice was low and dangerous. “Draven, don’t you dare touch her.”

Draven let out a short, cold laugh and pushed him down harder. Veins stood out along his hand, but his face remained perfectly calm. The contrast made the moment almost violent in its beauty.

But this was who Draven really was. Ayla thought he was a good man. She had no idea he could be ruthless, calculating, and willing to do anything to get what he wanted.

She wasn’t here, so this other side of him finally surfaced.

As for Troy? Draven didn’t care about him at all.
