Divorce me I'm done serving you (Ayla) novel Chapter 244

This was totally insane!

Halle wanted to keep voicing more about her suspicions. Even if Ayla was just pretending to be his girlfriend, Draven's intentions were definitely not that simple!

Honestly, Halle had always thought of Draven as this dignified, noble guy, but now he seemed a bit sly. It was like he'd just waited patiently for Ayla's marriage to end so he could make his move. That kind of strategy and restraint actually made someone like Draven weirdly appealing.

Before Halle could say any of that out loud, Ayla suddenly admitted, "Yeah, he probably does like me."

Halle was caught off guard. Her eyes went wide, brimming with gossip-fueled excitement. "How far have you two gotten?"

She felt a little nervous after asking.

Ayla rapped her on the head. "What are you thinking?"

Halle covered her head, pouting.

Ayla said, "If he didn't like me, he'd be disgusted just looking at me. There's no way he'd work with me. Since he wanted to team up, it means he likes me. And honestly, I like him too—otherwise I wouldn't spend so much time with him. Draven is a good person, and since he's also talented and happens to be Troy's rival, he's the perfect partner for me. Like people say, everything happens for a reason."

Halle caught the important part. "So Troy divorced you and still gave you trouble afterward?"

Ayla told her what had happened the night before, and Halle immediately switched her focus to Troy. Her expression soured. She kept telling Ayla that if anything happened, she should go straight to Draven for help. She hoped Troy would get smacked hard by Draven's grandma!

"Are you done overthinking things now?" Ayla asked.

Halle realized what Ayla meant by "like"—it was simple admiration.

Halle thought she was being shallow—she always thought of everything from a romantic angle.

Maybe Ayla and Draven were just operating on a different wavelength, and it really was just a business partnership.

After all, a guy like Draven could have been taken by anyone, but he'd stayed single for years. The fact that he never caved to temptation meant he really didn't care about love stuff.

Doesn't matter. Your safety comes first. Halle finally caught on. "Honestly, you two are a perfect match—you help each other out to get ahead."

Ayla smiled and nodded, tilting her chin toward the steering wheel. "Come on, drive. Let's go see Rolf."

Halle said, "Thanks for helping me out. I'm just lucky to be your friend."

"No problem. Hey, you're my best friend, remember that," Ayla said. She had to admit, she was being a little selfish, too.

If not for Halle, she wouldn't have cared this much. Rolf's words alone couldn't have hurt her.

There were always people in the world who didn't like her. If she spent all her energy caring about them, she would lose focus on her own goals. Her energy would get drained by their nonsense, and before she knew it, her time would be stolen by things and people that didn't matter.

Halle nodded, and Conrad caught the cue. Then he turned to Ayla, and only after she nodded too did he finally relax.

Tonight was supposed to be an apology to Halle, but Ayla was Draven's secretary—the one he trusted most—so Conrad was extra careful not to be disrespectful.

Besides that, Ayla's calm, distant vibe felt intimidating. She didn't say much, but there was a clear strength about her that made people hesitate to mess with her.

Between the two, Ayla was definitely the one in charge.

Conrad knew he couldn't afford to be careless and cross her.

Inside the private dining room, the table was already covered with fancy dishes and a bottle of wine costing over 20,000 dollars.

At that moment, the huge room had only Lisa in it.

Lisa was the CEO of Alvarado Group. She appeared to be around 30 years old, and she gave off a uniquely gentle presence. When Ayla and Halle walked in, she was pouring wine for the table, getting things ready.

When she saw them, she put the bottle down and greeted them right away, "Ms. Kinsman, Ms. Keaton, please make yourselves at home. Tonight is just a casual dinner—no business talk."

With both guests being women, Lisa was the perfect hostess.

After all, the Alvarado Group was the wealthiest in Trensea. Halle was nowhere near their level, but she knew she was being treated so kindly because of Ayla and Draven. She was totally fine with that.
