Chapter 277 Competition

In short, Jed was telling Isabella to take the hint and not butt heads with him.

Isabella smiled. “Then thank you for the reminder. If Mr. Winston yells at me, I’ll take it myself. It’s fine.”

Jed frowned even deeper. Looking at Isabella, he noticed she was different from before.

She wasn’t obedient or controllable anymore.

That made Jed extremely uncomfortable. His face turned cold. “Suit yourself.” With that, he walked away.

Jed didn’t believe Isabella would actually dare go in at a time like this.

But after a few steps, Isabella knocked on the door and really did push it open.

Jed turned back. His expression darkened instantly.

Was Isabella trying to challenge me now?

Jed let out a cold laugh. Workplace competition was brutal. Silent battles were everywhere. Jed had been by Troy’s side for many years. He believed Isabella wasn’t even qualified to compete with him.

Inside the office, Isabella looked at Troy, whose anger still hadn’t subsided. She placed the coffee cup on his desk, then picked up the phone from the floor.

The screen was cracked, but it still worked.

Isabella had already planned to buy him a new phone.

“Give me the phone,” Troy suddenly spoke.

Isabella immediately handed it over.

The phone still worked. He called Bria.

“Troy? Why are you calling me?” Bria was still half-asleep. She was a night owl and usually didn’t wake up until around 11 a.m. She’d pulled an all-nighter last night and was extremely groggy.

“Keep an eye on Ayla!”

Troy had originally planned to give this task to Max, but Max had been acting strange lately.

His gut just said no to Max.

“Why?” Bria couldn’t be bothered.

When Ayla was still my sister-in-law, I never took her seriously. Now that they’re divorced, Ayla is just a stranger.

No, wait. I still haven’t figured out her relationship with Sol!

“Just do as I say. I’m going on a business trip for a while.”

Martin had spoken. Troy had to deal with things first, then come back to settle the score with Draven.

But now, Troy wanted to go personally.

He needed to find proof that Draven was behind this and then report it to Martin.

At the very least, he’d be back before Martin’s birthday. Even if it took about a month, Ayla shouldn’t run into any major trouble in such a short time.

Besides, he’d still be watching.

“Can’t you find someone else?” Bria was still lazy.

Troy’s expression worsened.

Hearing Bria’s voice, Isabella didn’t speak. She gestured to Troy.

Meaning, she could do the task of watching Ayla.

“You’re useless!” Troy didn’t bother with Bria anymore and hung up.

Only then did Isabella speak. “Mr. Winston, I can—”

“No need,” Troy said. “You’re coming with me on the business trip.”

Troy usually took Jed with him on trips. This time, he wanted to take her instead. Isabella was certain Troy was starting to value her. She was thrilled, but she didn’t show it. She pretended to look puzzled instead. “What about Jed-”

“Just do what I tell you.”

“Got it!” Isabella added, “By the way, I had someone investigate Ayla and Halle yesterday. My team is solid. We can keep watching them.”

Troy thought for a moment, then nodded. “Report to me immediately if there’s any news.”

Isabella replied, “Will do.”

Soon, Jed received the news that Isabella would be accompanying Troy on the business trip.

In the break room, Jed stopped Isabella. “Isabella, congratulations.”

The words were clenched through his teeth. His expression didn’t look congratulatory at all. It was icy

instead.

In the past, Isabella always watched Jed’s mood before acting. This time, she wanted to seize the opportunity and leave herself no way out.
