When the event ended, lots of people still didn’t want to go home. Some groups stayed behind, ready for round two with drinks, singing, and all the fun stuff.
Ayla had taken a taxi earlier, and at that moment, Halle hadn’t come out yet.
She went to grab a cup of hot chocolate.
Just as she returned, she heard Halle’s voice. “I fixed the data problem for you. Why isn’t the project finished yet? Your R&D is taking a bit long. Do you have enough funding?”
Norris had many skilled people, but none could compare to the big shot behind Halle. He said, “Give us one or two more months, and it should be done.”
He was still curious. “Ms. Kinsman, could I meet the person who made LugiX?”
“Trying to steal my team?” Halle joked.
Norris chuckled. “Just curious.”
Halle didn’t want to make things harder for Ayla. That’s what she thought, but her mouth ran ahead, “That’s easy. She’s…”
Before she could finish saying “too busy,” Halle spotted Ayla holding her cup of hot chocolate. “Ayla!”
Norris froze.
Who? Ayla?
Norris followed Halle’s eyes and saw Ayla. At first glance, her figure reminded him of a student he’d met in a lab before!
But he quickly figured it out. “You’re … the nanny at Troy’s house?”
Halle’s smile dropped.
Ayla stepped in front of her and gave Norris a cool glance. “And what? Wondering why I’m here?”
Ayla spoke in a calm, flat voice. Though she didn’t seem angry, Norris suddenly felt uncomfortable. He had a sharp memory and had spoken without thinking-especially since Halle knew her. But calling her a nanny to her face? That was too much. “Sorry…” he mumbled.
“I’m a student at Agron University, Ayla Keaton. I have nothing to do with Troy,” she said, staying calm. “I’ve even sat in on your class, Professor Payne.”
Norris was surprised. He looked at Ayla, then at Halle. “She really is…”
Ayla’s face stayed expressionless. “No.”
Norris paused, feeling a little let down.

He had read all the papers from Halle’s group, but nothing had stood out. Maybe he was just overthinking
Ayla had always thought developing LugiX wasn’t that hard. No need to brag about it. She didn’t like being bothered, so she kept quiet.
She asked Halle, “Are you finished?”
Halle watched the scene from the side. She could feel Ayla’s subtle strength, and it made her secretly thrilled.
Ayla was never easy to deal with. She had pride, and when she made up her mind, she stuck to it.
It only showed how lucky Troy was. Ayla didn’t fall for people easily, and she didn’t give herself away easily. But she had given her heart fully to Troy. If he didn’t value it, that was his own loss. Once Ayla walked away and shone on her own, Troy would have to regret it.
Halle said, “I’m done. Lisa wants to talk to you. Let’s wait until she comes out.”
Ayla disliked Rolf, but she didn’t dislike Lisa.
In fact, she really liked Lisa’s gentle but firm way of carrying herself.
Halle turned to Norris. “Professor Payne, let’s talk another time. I hope to hear good results from your lab
soon.”
Norris didn’t need to stay any longer. He was just about to leave when Rolf came out.
Rolf noticed Ayla immediately. He had always looked down on her. After what happened last time, that dislike had turned into genuine hatred.
“What are you doing here again?” Rolf knew Ayla was a student at Agron University’s School of Computer Science. “You don’t qualify to be here, and you’re shamelessly showing up anyway. No shame?”
Ayla replied, “Not enough drinks last time?”
Rolf’s face twisted with anger. “The way you’re scheming to climb up is disgusting.”
Halle’s face darkened.
Ayla frowned. She didn’t want to explain herself. Her voice turned cold. “I’ll compete if I want, and I’ll fight if I want. What does that have to do with you?”
When she went ice-cold, the pressure around her felt heavy. “And you, say one more thing, and I’ll make one phone call and have your dad apologize to me again.”

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
