Honestly, Skyla always thought Ayla had gone numb. That’s why she didn’t lash out like other women and take out all her anger over her boyfriend’s lack of love on her.

Even if Ayla had done that, Skyla wouldn’t have been scared-because it would only make Troy dislike her

more.

At first, she thought Ayla was holding back on purpose, scared of doing anything Troy wouldn’t like. But after seeing her a few times, she realized Ayla didn’t even have the energy to fight back.

Then Ayla started working behind the scenes, making Halle step in!

Skyla despised her even more. “If you want to fight, fight openly. Don’t hide or try to stay clean. Don’t be a

coward!”

Norris looked at Rolf and tried to smooth things over. “Is there a misunderstanding? No need to get upset.”

Rolf replied, “Who’s upset? I just saw someone I don’t like. Makes me feel sick.”

Lisa looked terrible, but Rolf didn’t even notice her. He turned to Skyla and asked, “Shall we go?” He didn’t want to stay.

Skyla didn’t have any reason to stay either.

Just then, Howard parked his car and walked over. “Skyla, are you guys done?”

Ayla recognized him as a friend of Halle, who was from the finance alumni group. Besides being kind of androgynous, Ayla didn’t know much else about him.

Halle didn’t know Howard’s past either, but since he hung out with Skyla and Rolf, she immediately distrusted him.

She had only been friendly with him because he looked pretty. But now, she just felt disgusted.

Howard noticed Halle. “Well, look who it is. Meeting you again. Want to get a drink? I promised to treat you last time but didn’t get the chance.”

Then he looked at the woman next to Halle. “Ayla, right? Are you coming?”

Since he was just an acquaintance of Halle’s, Ayla didn’t answer.

Ayla’s vibe was naturally cold and distant, and Howard knew it. He didn’t expect her to say anything and just focused on Halle.

Halle replied coolly, refusing him, “Different circles. No need to force it. You guys have fun.”

Howard looked surprised. “Did I upset you?”

Halle said coldly, “Being with Skyla and Rolf is upsetting enough.”

Skyla and Rolf’s faces darkened.

Halle was cozying up to Draven, speaking very bluntly and giving them no respect at all, which made the two of them extremely uncomfortable.

Howard understood and quickly wiped the smile off his face. “Alright, got it.”

He walked over to stand with Skyla and Rolf, making his stance clear.

He used to have a good time with Halle, but that friendship could be tossed aside at any time.

Skyla was different. She had helped him out of trouble and was the model for his secret crush. He already saw her as a real friend, mostly because she had used her hacker skills to help him. Without that, he wouldn’t care so much.

“Let’s go,” he said.

Skyla shot Ayla and Halle a cold look, said goodbye to Norris, and left.

Before leaving, Rolf asked Lisa, “You coming?”

Lisa replied, “I’ll tell Dad about what happened today.”

Rolf didn’t care. “Do what

you

want.”

Lisa’s eyes went cold.

Once they got in the car, Howard looked out the window at Halle and the others in the distance.

Howard’s eyes lingered on Ayla for a moment.

She had a really different energy. Standing next to Skyla, she looked even more like a top student, brimming with pride and confidence.

Howard tilted his head. “What’s her story?”

Rolf said, “Ayla? She’s Troy’s ex-wife. A really calculating woman.”

Howard’s jaw dropped. “Troy’s ex-wife?” He recalled their first meeting. “She’s even been in Draven’s car?”

Rolf sneered. “She’s Draven’s secretary. She clung to him, then rushed to get a divorce. Otherwise, do you think she’d give up being Mrs. Winston so easily?”

Howard knew about the rivalry between Troy and Draven. Ayla siding with Draven? That felt like a betrayal.

He frowned instantly.
