Emmett stared at Kaleb. "Look at your reaction. Something's off. Something's definitely off. Kaleb, be honest. I got it right, didn't I!"
Kaleb ran a hand through his hair. For someone who relied so much on order, he felt like he had been completely thrown off balance.
He said, "I don't know."
He couldn't even sort out his own thoughts. What bothered him the most was that he couldn't control these reactions that went beyond his expectations.
For example, why didn't he feel disgusted when Bria got close to him with zero sense of boundaries?
Emmett nudged his arm. "You still don't know? Think about how you used to be. You kept everyone at a distance. If some stranger came near you, did you ever give them the time of day? Now you've let a girl into your social circle. If that's not liking her, then what is it?"
Kaleb was speechless.
Emmett was convinced he was right. "Kaleb, oh Kaleb, how did you end up liking Bria? From enemies to lovers? Things are moving way too fast between you two!"
Kaleb said, "It's not that exaggerated."
Emmett looked at his guilty expression and clicked his tongue teasingly. "Then tell me, what did you do with Bria tonight?"
Kaleb had planned to keep it from him, but now he couldn't hide it anymore. He told him they had gone to a bar and were forced to play a game.
The more Emmett listened, the more shocked he became. It made sense why Kaleb looked so troubled. But he recovered quickly. After being stunned for a moment, he started comforting him. "Just take it easy. Keep interacting with Bria normally. Pay attention to how you feel when you're with her. Maybe you'll figure it out.
"Besides, none of us has any experience with relationships. Who even knows what real feelings are supposed to be like? You don't regret the things you do, so just trust yourself."
Kaleb never liked dealing with people. He didn't have many friends, and he was perfectly fine that way.
When Bria entered his life, he instinctively resisted or avoided her. But now, he was slowly changing.
It was beyond what he expected.
Do I really like Bria?
Would he really like a spoiled rich girl with a rotten streak down to her bones?
Kaleb didn't think he had any self-destructive tendencies. He figured he needed to observe more.
For now, he could only let things take their course. After all, this was just a feeling. It was like crying during a movie. Feelings didn't necessarily mean anything.
Seeing that Kaleb had calmed down, Emmett asked one last question. "When you're with Bria, are you happy?"
Kaleb thought for two seconds. "I don't really know what happy feels like, but it's not bad."

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
