Peyton had thought this through carefully. He strongly suspected Wendy was behind the scandal.

But he had no proof. He couldn’t accuse her outright. Besides, he still felt guilty about what happened to her. Even if she’d done it, he couldn’t bring himself to confront her.

This, however, was pushing him to his breaking point.

He’d snap sooner or later. Ever since he’d gotten together with Quinn, Wendy had been relentless. She was always finding ways to tie him to her side.

Meanwhile, Quinn was having breakfast with her mother at home. Her phone kept ringing. She picked it up -it was her brother Kieran.

“Quinn, get online right now! What’s going on with your fiancé?” he shouted angrily. “Yesterday he was eating with us, saying he was going back to take care of his grandma. Is he with his grandma? No-he’s at the hospital with that woman!”

Kieran was furious. Everyone knew about Peyton and Wendy’s history. They were all friends once. No one had ever opposed him taking care of her.

But he’d lied about going back to his grandma. That’s what made it unforgivable.

Quinn hadn’t checked her phone yet. She had no idea what was happening. She quickly pulled up the news. Photos of Peyton and Wendy at the hospital last night were everywhere clear and unambiguous.

The comments section was blowing up.

People were congratulating them. Others dug up old stories-like how Wendy had saved Peyton’s life years

ago.

Quinn felt a chill run down her spine. Internet users could be terrifying.

They took bits of information and twisted them into wild rumors, with no regard for the truth.

Some claimed Peyton was only with Wendy out of obligation, not love.

Others said he’d be cursed if he didn’t marry her-saying it was payback for what he owed her.

Quinn rubbed her temples in frustration.

Weare getting engaged soon. Why does this have to happen now?

And what really went down at the hospital last night? The photos look genuine-not photoshopped at all.

She felt heartbroken and confused.

The news had been out for nearly an hour. But Peyton hadn’t contacted her once. She’d found out from someone else.

It was utterly humiliating.

Chapter 100 A Crisis of Trust

To say she didn’t care would be a lie.

Doris heard the commotion and hurried over. She’d overheard the conversation. When she saw the news, she quickly pulled out her own phone to check.

“Quinn, don’t panic,” she said calmly. “Things might not be what they seem. I don’t think Peyton would do something like this. He’s always taken care of that woman. Taking her to the hospital is just his sense of responsibility. We should let him explain first.

“Never jump to conclusions or get angry before you know the truth. From what I know of Peyton, he wouldn’t have wanted this to happen either.”

Doris trusted Peyton completely. She didn’t believe he was capable of betrayal.

If hereally cared that much about Wendy, they would have been together a long time ago. He never would have gotten engaged to someone else.

I’ve watched Peyton grow up. He is a man of integrity. He’ll never do something so dishonorable.

Her trust in him was unshakable.

Doris’ words eased Quinn’s mind a little. But she still felt hurt. She wanted to hear Peyton’s explanation in his own words-not from anyone else.

Stubbornly, she didn’t call him. Instead, she put down her phone and threw herself into work.

At Reed Group, Peyton was dealing with the fallout. The scandal was seriously damaging the company’s reputation. He needed to resolve it quickly to reassure the shareholders.

“Mr. Reed, what should we do next?” his assistant asked anxiously, rushing into the office. “Reporters are already swarming outside. This is really hurting us.”

“First, contain the spread. Find the source of the leak and hold them accountable,” Peyton ordered coldly. This wasn’t over-not by a long shot.

“Yes, sir. Right away.”

The assistant hurried out, determined to fix the situation as quickly as possible.
