Chapter 102 His Explanation

Quinn couldn’t figure out what Peyton was thinking.

So much time has passed since the incident. Even if nothing’s going on between him and Wendy, like Mom insisted, doesn’t he owe me an explanation?

She didn’t care about his relationship with Wendy. She trusted there was nothing improper. What mattered to her was his attitude.

Before she knew it, morning arrived..

Quinn hadn’t gotten up by noon. She’d stayed up late replaying everything in her mind.

Peyton had wrapped up most of his work at the company. He decided to head straight to the Reed Manor. Some things needed to be said in person.

When he arrived, he went to Quinn’s house right away.

It was already noon, and her family was home. They greeted him warmly when they saw him.

“Peyton, Quinn didn’t sleep until who knows what time last night,” Doris explained. “She’s still in bed. She finally got a few days off to rest, so James and I didn’t wake her.”

“Peyton, you actually showed up,” Kieran snapped, no hint of politeness in his voice. “So much has happened these past two days, and you never bothered to explain anything to my sister. How dare you come here? Do you know how worried she’s been? Her mood’s been terrible. What are you playing at?”

Kieran wouldn’t let anyone hurt his sister. Even if Peyton was innocent, he owed. Quinn an explanation.

“Mrs. Hart, Kieran, after what happened yesterday, I was swamped with company matters,” Peyton apologized sincerely. “But I was wrong. I should have told Quinn beforehand. I promise this won’t happen again.

“Since she’s still asleep, I’ll wait for her here. I want to explain everything to her in person.”

Guilt weighed heavily on Peyton. He’d been wrong to leave Quinn hanging.

“You must have left early this morning,” Doris said, changing the subject. “You haven’t eaten yet, have you? Let’s have lunch together while we wait.”

“Quinn still trusts you, you know,” she added earnestly. “She’s so much more sensible now than she used to be. But since you two are getting engaged soon, you need to be open with each other.”

Doris tried to smooth things over. She didn’t want their argument to play into Wendy’s hands.

She refused to let that happen.

“Thank you, Mrs. Hart. I appreciate your understanding,” Peyton said gratefully.

He’d expected them to be angry. Anyone would be upset if their daughter’s fiancé was involved in such a scandal right before the engagement.

But instead, Doris was comforting him and giving him advice. It touched him deeply.

Peyton had never experienced this kind of warmth or family support before. He’d always handled everything alone, sharing only a little with his own mother.

But his mother was always too busy with parties and social events to truly support him.

This feeling of being cared for was strange-and comforting.

Even though Kieran had snapped at him, Peyton knew he’d been helping behind the scenes. Kieran had used his connections to handle the PR crisis, and it hadn’t gone unnoticed.

As they chatted downstairs, Quinn suddenly appeared, still in her pajamas. She looked like she’d just woken

“Peyton? What are you doing here?” she asked, surprised. She’d gone to bed angry at him last night, never expecting to see him in her house the next day.

“Kieran, have you finished eating?” Doris said quickly. “I’m meeting Linda and the others for cards. Our driver’s off today. Can you drive me?”

As soon as she saw Quinn, Doris hurried to leave with Kieran, giving the couple some privacy.

It wasn’t a huge issue, but it was important for them-especially with the engagement approaching.

Once Doris and Kieran were gone, they were left alone.

“I’m sure you saw the news yesterday,” Peyton said gently. “It’s not what you think. Wendy had a high fever and refused to go to the hospital. Her maid called me in a panic.”

“I couldn’t let anything happen to her. Her mental and physical health are both fragile right now,” he explained, “So I went to help. I stayed with her at the hospital while she got an IV. Once her fever broke, I left. I never expected someone to take pictures and post them online”

Chapter 103 Because I Love You

“I was wrong yesterday,” Peyton said sincerely. “I should have explained everything to you right away. I shouldn’t have let you misunderstand me or feel sad alone. If anything like this happens again, I’ll be honest with you immediately.”

He told her every detail of what had transpired. Quinn had been angry at first, even questioning why she cared so much and what Peyton’s actions had to do with her.

They were getting engaged, but they had no real emotional foundation. She’d thought the engagement was just to appease their parents.

“Okay, I see,” she replied quietly. “I guess we’ll have to postpone the engagement. This isn’t the right time for it.”

Quinn had thought it through. She knew an engagement now would only make things worse. Too many people knew about the scandal.

Peyton would face harsh criticism, and the company, Iris’ lifelong legacy, would suffer. She couldn’t let that happen.

She’d actually come to terms with it. Postponing the engagement didn’t bother her as much as she’d expected. But hearing about him with another woman the day before had still stung, uncontrollably.

“Quinn, thank you for understanding,” Peyton said firmly. “The engagement won’t be delayed for long. I’ll reschedule it soon. Being with you is my choice. I don’t do it out of obligation. I’ve done enough for Wendy. I don’t feel guilty anymore.”

His tone was unwavering.

Quinn knew Peyton was a man of great responsibility. Even if he said this, he’d still help Wendy when she needed it. He’d never abandon her completely.

“Alright, I’ll go back with you today,” she said, changing the subject. I have a lot of work waiting for me at the studio.”

She was eager to get back. There was much to handle at work, and she trusted Peyton to sort out the scandal.

“Quinn, if something’s bothering you, don’t keep it to yourself, Peyton urged.

She sounded understanding, but he sensed a faint sadness in her. He hated seeing the woman he loved bottling up her feelings.

Quinn smiled faintly, “Nothing’s bothering me. You’re overthinking it. I just don’t want Mia to handle everything at the studio alone.

“I trust you, really. I’m not upset.”

Seeing her pretending to be strong, Peyton felt a pang of sadness. He hated seeing her like this.

“Quinn, we’re getting engaged soon. We’ll be family,” he said softly. “There’s something I’ve never told you,

but I think I should now.
