Chapter 103 Because I Love You

“I’m not choosing to marry you because our families are a good match. Yes, our families have known each other for years, but that’s not why I’m doing this. You’re the one I want to spend the rest of my life with. I’d never settle for someone I don’t love. And if I had to settle, it wouldn’t be you.”
Peyton’s voice turned tender. His eyes were serious as he spoke, determined to show her he was following his heart.
“Then why are you with me?” Quinn asked, stunned. She stared at him in disbelief. His sudden sincerity caught her off guard.
“Because I love you,” Peyton replied without hesitation. His tone was firm, no hint of a lie.
In that moment, Quinn’s eyes lit up. She froze, unable to believe what she’d just heard.
He’s with me because he lovesme?
She could barely trust her own ears.
“Quinn, I never do anything against my will,” he said earnestly, his eyes filled with deep affection. “I’m with you because I love you. You might not believe it now, but I’ll let time prove it.”
He didn’t add that he’d loved her for years. He wanted to keep that to himself, hoping one day she’d remember their past and recognize him on her own.
“I…”
Quinn was lost for words. She didn’t know how to respond or how to face him now.

Chapter 104 Reaching His Limit

“You don’t need to say anything right now,” Peyton said gently. “Just trust my feelings for you. I chose to be with you because of who you are, not because of our families or any pressure.
“If I’d settled for family pressure, I never would have ended up with you. So don’t carry any unnecessary burden.
“I might be really busy these days and won’t have much time to spend with you. Don’t overthink it. Once things calm down, I’ll make it up to you. We’ll reschedule the engagement soon too.
“We should have been preparing for it by now. But you know what happened. I never wanted to drag you into this mess, but I had no choice.”
As long as they communicated openly, Quinn would understand. She knew he had nothing to do with Wendy.
Still, she couldn’t help feeling upset sometimes. She found herself wondering.
Havel spent too much time with him? Havel unknowingly fallen in love?
She was confused. She wasn’t even sure what love meant anymore.
Will opening my heart to someone again only lead to hurt, just like before?
She was scared to fully commit. Her first instinct was to protect herself.
“If we get engaged now, it won’t just affect you,” she said firmly. “I know you’re fearless when it comes to yourself, but it would hurt the company and even the entire Reed family.
“I’m not in a hurry for the engagement. Your words are enough for me. It’s just a ceremony, and I’ve never cared much about those things anyway.”
Quinn’s tone was resolute. She knew the situation was more complicated than it seemed. Even though the online backlash had died down, any new developments would bring the old news rushing back.
“Thank you for understanding,” Peyton replied. “I’m already investigating. I’ll find out who’s behind all this manipulation!”
Whoever had leaked the news would pay for it.
“I think it’s weird too,” Quinn agreed. “There shouldn’t have been many people around that late at night. If it had been during the day, it might make sense. But why did this have to happen right before our engagement?”
It felt like someone was deliberately targeting them. These were questions they needed to answer.
Quinn fully supported his investigation. After chatting for a while, they cleared up all misunderstandings. There had never been any deep rift between them-just occasional moments of unease.
Peyton learned his lesson from this incident. If anything similar happened again, he’d tell Quinn immediately.
