“They just arrived yesterday, so I want to spend the day showing them around,” Quinn explained.
“The project is pretty time-sensitive, but you stay with them,” Leo said. “I’ll find someone else to handle this here. No need for you to come in.”
In truth, there was no real emergency at work. Leo had just been dying to see Quinn. They hadn’t spoken in days. He’d made up the excuse to get her to the office.
But now that he knew her mom was in town, he didn’t want to ruin their family time.
“Okay, sounds good. You can send me the data though. I’ll take a quick look,” Quinn replied. She took her work seriously and hated the thought of any issues with her project slipping through the cracks
“I’ll have someone take care of it. Don’t worry about a thing,” Leo assured her. “Go enjoy your day with your mom. I’ll stop by to say hi sometime soon. It’s been way too long since I’ve seen her. I miss her.” He had no intention of actually making her work.
“Sure,” Quinn said.
She didn’t say anything else before hanging up the phone.
“Is Leo still busy with his company?” Doris asked.
“Yeah, it’s growing bigger and more successful by the day,” Quinn answered. “Honestly, I never thought he’d pull it off at first. I always saw him as a bit flaky, never serious about anything. But he’s really turned things around-total surprise.”
In her eyes, Leo had always been unreliable, never settling down to do anything meaningful. To see him build such a successful business now really impressed her.

“Leo’s matured so much over the years,” Doris said, nodding thoughtfully. “I used to think of him like a kid. Does he have a girlfriend yet?” she asked, concern lacing her voice.
Before she and Quinn had their falling out, she and Leo had been close. He’d visited their house often.
Even after the rift caused by Felix, Doris had still kept in touch with Leo from time to time, asking about Quinn. She’d never imagined their relationship would grow so complicated because of Felix.
Eventually, Leo had lost touch with Quinn entirely, and their relationship had faded.
“Not yet,” Quinn said. “But my assistant has a bit of a crush on him. But they’re from totally different worlds -different lifestyles. Probably not a good match. She’s starting to give up, I think.”
Talking about this made Quinn’s head hurt. She had no idea how to handle the situation.
Honestly, Mia would make a great wife, and Quinn was sure they’d be happy together. But ultimately, it wasn’t her decision to make.
“Leo’s a good kid. He wouldn’t care about family backgrounds,” Doris said. “If your assistant’s a nice girl, you should try to set them up. I think it could work.”

Doris worried about Leo’s love life. He’d always been like family to her, and she thought highly of him.
“Matchmaking doesn’t work like that,” Quinn said softly. “It has to be up to them. No one else can decide for
them.”
“Alright, enough about them,” Doris said, changing the subject. “Let’s talk about your engagement. It’s at the end of the month. You two need to get moving.”
“Mom, we’re totally comfortable leaving it in your and Eleanor’s hands,” Quinn said. “You’ve seen how busy we are with work, and Wendy’s situation is still ongoing.
“We trust you to handle everything.”
Quinn had never wanted to take charge of the engagement plans anyway. She didn’t have high expectations for the event-all that mattered to her was that she and Peyton had a stable, happy relationship.
“Even so, there are some things we need to discuss with you,” Doris said. “You two should head back home soon to take your engagement photos. We can display them at the entrance of the ceremony.
“I’m planning every step according to what young people like these days. I’m sure you’ll love it. Eleanor and I have put all our heart and soul into this engagement. We need you two to take it seriously too.”
Doris couldn’t help but lecture them a little. It seemed like neither of them had paid much attention to the engagement plans. Even though they’d handed over the responsibilities, they still needed to take ownership of their own ceremony.
“Mrs. Hart, we trust your and Mom’s taste completely. That’s why we’re happy to leave everything to you,” Peyton said.
:
Peyton could have handled the engagement plans himself if he’d wanted to. But time was tight lately, and watching the two mothers throw themselves into the preparations with such enthusiasm-so proud of their work-made him want to let them enjoy it.
