Eleanor was at her wit’s end. She’d never imagined the engagement would end up ruined by Felix.

Felix had been dragged away kicking and screaming. Even though he was no longer causing a scene, the damage was done-irreversible.

What now…

“Today’s engagement ceremony is over. Thank you all for coming,” Peyton said, his voice cold and dark as he grabbed a microphone. “I apologize for the spectacle. We will resolve this matter promptly.”

After a few brief words to the crowd, he led his family away without hesitation.

The guests whispered among themselves, but with the ceremony officially called off, there was no point in staying. They filed out one by one.

“Mrs. Iris Reed, are you okay?” Quinn asked, rushing to Iris’ side. She looked pale and weak, and Quinn’s heart filled with worry.

“Cut the act, Quinn!” Donna snapped, stepping in to block her. “If it weren’t for you, Iris wouldn’t be like this! You’re already engaged. Why are you still tangled up with your ex? Look at what you’ve done to our family!”

“That’s enough, Donna,” Harold said, pulling his wife back.

“I’m fine, dear,” Iris said weakly, her voice trembling. “I just… got a little overexcited earlier. Don’t take it to heart. I know this isn’t your fault. You never wanted things to turn out like this.”

She sounded utterly drained, clearly shaken by the chaos. She looked unwell, her face ashen.

“Grandma, we need to get you to the hospital,” Peyton said, his voice urgent. He could tell she was struggling to hold on. They couldn’t afford to waste any more time.

Even if the checkup showed nothing serious, it would put their minds at ease.

“Don’t worry about me. I’m fine,” Iris insisted, turning to Quinn. “I’m just sorry you had to go through this,

dear.”

Iris trusted Quinn implicitly. She knew Quinn would never cheat or lead someone on-especially now that she was engaged to Peyton. And above all, she trusted Peyton’s judgment.

Donna fumed silently nearby.

How could Iris still not blame Quinn after everything that had happened?

“Grandma, let’s go to the hospital now,” Peyton repeated, gently helping her to her feet. He could feel her trembling. She was putting on a brave face, but her body was failing her.

They hurried to the hospital, with Quinn following closely behind.

“Peyton, this is all my fault,” Quinn said, her voice filled with guilt. “I never thought Felix would show up. We had no warning. I’ll take responsibility for the fallout-whatever it takes.”

Deep down, she knew there wasn’t much she could do, especially when it came to the Reed family’s business matters.

“I trust you. This isn’t your fault,” Peyton said firmly, squeezing her hand. “I’ll fix this. Don’t carry this burden alone.”

He had complete faith in her. Together, they could get through anything-as long as they trusted each other. That was all that mattered.

When they arrived at the hospital, Iris was rushed straight to the emergency room. Her heart had always been weak, and the shock had pushed her body to its limit.

Quinn waited anxiously outside, consumed by guilt.

If it weren’t for me, she wouldn’t be fighting for her life right now.

But there was no use dwelling on “what-ifs.” The damage was already done.

Eleanor paced back and forth nearby, her face twisted with anxiety and frustration.

“I warned you both! Don’t marry some random person-they’ll only bring trouble to our family!” Donna said, her voice dripping with sarcasm as she pretended to comfort Eleanor. “But you wouldn’t listen. Now do you see I was right?”

“Random person? Speak for yourself!” Eleanor snapped, finally losing her temper. “This was an accident. If you’re truly worried about Iris, stay. But if you’re here to gloat, get out. I don’t have the energy to argue with you right now.”

Eleanor had been holding back her anger all day. Donna’s thoughtless words were the final straw.

“If your family hadn’t dragged us into this mess, our entire family wouldn’t be affected!” Donna shot back. “Why can’t I speak my mind?

“I warned you, and you ignored me. Now that something’s gone wrong, why should we suffer the consequences with you?”

Donna felt triumphant. This was clearly the Hart family’s fault, and she was determined to make them pay -even if it meant picking a fight at a time like this.
