“Promise me you’ll look out for yourself from now on. Never let anyone hurt you, Quinn said firmly.
“You stay here tonight. I got the room sorted. No need to rush to the office tomorrow-take the day to rest up,” she added gently, truly caring about Mia.
“Thank you, Miss Hart. You’re the best,” Mia said, gratitude flooding her voice. She knew she’d made the right choice sticking with Quinn.
When Quinn had left her old company, Mia was the only one who’d followed. Quinn had been upfront back then-money would be tight at first, but things would get better. Mia had insisted she didn’t mind the pay cut. She just wanted to work with Quinn. Now she knew that choice had been perfect.
Seeing Mia was fully sober and okay, Quinn headed out of the hotel room.
As soon as she stepped outside, she spotted Leo waiting by the door.
“Leo? Why aren’t you resting?” she asked.
“Waiting for you. Didn’t want to leave in case you needed help,” he replied. “You heading home? Let me drive you.”
Leo was always this thoughtful and attentive.
Inside the room, Mia heard their voices. Her face fell, all trace of a smile gone.
The one he cares about is always Miss Hart. Any kindness he’s shown meis just to please Miss Hart.
She felt ridiculous. A wave of nausea hit her suddenly, and she stumbled to the bathroom.
Why have made myself this miserable? Miss Hart is right. I should put myself first before loving someone else with all my heart. But I just couldn’t do it.
He has never even spared me a second glance. Why am I wasting my feelings?
Quinn left the hotel and headed home,
When she walked in, she found Peyton still working in the study-he hadn’t gone to bed.
“Everything sorted out over there?” he asked, looking up.
“Yeah. Mia’s fine now, fully sober. I got her a room so she could rest properly,” Quinn answered softly.
“It’s so late. Why aren’t you asleep?” She frowned, stepping closer. “I know work’s crazy right now, but you can’t run yourself into the ground.” She hated seeing him this way.
He always pushed himself too hard like this. He told her to balance work and rest all the time, but never followed his own advice.
“The client’s breathing down our necks on this project. The scandal made them lose trust in us. I have to wrap this up tonight,” he explained.

“Go to bed. Don’t worry about me,” he added, not wanting her to stay up with him.

Quinn left the study and headed to the kitchen. She’d been run ragged tonight, and her stomach was growling.
Peyton’s still up. Why not whip up some spaghetti for us both?
The thought made her feel warm and happy.
Minutes later, Quinn carried two plates of spaghetti into the study and set them down.
“Peyton, you’ve been at this since afternoon. You must be exhausted. Take a break. Eat something,” she said,
a small smile on her face. Even this little thing made her feel so content.
Peyton froze, surprised she’d brought him food.
You made this?” he asked, eyes wide.
“Sure did. My cooking’s not as good as Mabel’s, but I’m pretty good at spaghetti. Taste it,” she said proudly.
Peyton was worn out. He’d been grinding away for hours, and the work was tough. He nodded and sat down, twirling a bite of spaghetti into his mouth. It was delicious-exactly what he wanted.
“Didn’t know you could cook this well. It’s great,” he said, a soft smile tugging at his lips. His tired face softened instantly.
He felt so satisfied in that moment. Working till midnight was draining, but getting spaghetti cooked by her? It was more than he’d ever hoped for.
“Then I’ll cook for you whenever you’re swamped like this,” she said. “My skills aren’t perfect, but I can definitely learn to get better.”
