“I could never bear to make you cook every day,” Peyton said softly. “Just focus on taking care of your own stuff. That’s more than enough for me.”
All he wanted was for her to be happy every day, free to handle her work without extra burdens.
“Alright, hurry up and eat before it gets cold,” Quinn urged, a warm smile tugging at her lips.
Her heart felt full to the brim.
This is the difference between being loved and not being loved, isn’t it?
Back when she was with Felix, if he’d liked her cooking, he would’ve demanded she make it for him every single day without a second thought.
But Peyton’s response? It was something she’d never even imagined, never dared to hope for.
They shared simple plates of spaghetti together, but both of them felt an overwhelming sense of contentment and happiness.
“It’s way past your bedtime. You’ve stayed up with me long enough. Go get some rest,” Peyton said, brushing a strand of hair off her forehead.
He had to finish this contract tonight. They had a meeting scheduled for tomorrow to hash things out, so he really couldn’t afford to slack off. If it weren’t for that, he would’ve dropped everything the second he saw her waiting up for him this late.
Quinn could tell he was genuinely swamped.
This work must’ve been super important for him to still be glued to his desk at this hour.
So she didn’t pester him any longer, figuring he’d be able to rest sooner if he wrapped things up quickly.
Before she knew it, morning rolled around.
When Quinn woke up, Peyton was already gone. Her studio’s projects had been running smoothly these past few days, and there wasn’t much she needed to handle personally. So she decided to head to the hospital to keep Iris company.
Eleanor had been by Iris’ side for the past three days straight, Quinn wanted to give her a chance to take a
break.
Peyton had been swamped with company work these days-no time to visit the hospital at all. If Quinn didn’t go, she knew Iris would start worrying herself sick,
When she arrived at the ward, Eleanor was feeding Iris à meal.
“Mrs. Iris Reed! Mrs. Reed! I’m here,” Quinn called out, walking in with a bag of fresh fruit.
“Quinn, didn’t I tell you? You don’t have to come all the way over here if you’re busy with work,” Eleanor said, turning to her with a gentle smile. “I’m here taking care of Iris-ain’t no need for you to worry.”

She really just hated seeing them run themselves ragged back and forth. She knew their work kept them plenty busy as it was.
“Mrs. Reed, my studio’s been pretty quiet these days-nothing urgent going on,” Quinn replied calmly. “You’ve been stuck here taking care of Mrs. Iris Reed nonstop. You must be exhausted. Let me stay here today. You go home, get some rest, and change into some fresh clothes.”
That was exactly why she’d come. She wanted to give Eleanor a much-deserved break.
“Oh, I’m fine, honey,” Eleanor waved her off. “All I do at home is play cards or window-shop anyway- nothing important. You two, on the other hand, have got your hands full with work. I’ll stay here.”
“Honestly, none of you need to stick around here,” Iris chimed in, her voice a little gruff but warm. “Ain’t there already nurses and caregivers looking after me? Having all these people fussing over me day in and day out is suffocating. You all go on and take care of your own business. I’m perfectly fine here.
Iris had always been the tough, independent type. Lying in this hospital bed, relying on others for every little thing, while everyone around her dropped their own lives to fuss over her? It made her feel absolutely terrible.
“How could we ever leave you here alone?” Quinn said, sitting down beside her bed. “Yeah, you’re stable now, but we still worry about you. We just can’t relax until we see you’re okay with our own eyes.”
“The doctor said Iris just needs three more days of observation,” Eleanor explained, patting Quinn’s hand. “If everything checks out, she can go home. So I’ll stay here these few days. You two go focus on your work. Don’t waste your time hanging around here.”
She hated the thought of them putting their busy lives on hold for this. She had everything under control here.
“Peyton hasn’t been able to come by these past few days… his company must be drowning in work,” Iris murmured, her eyes drifting toward the window, clearly troubled.
Even though she was stuck in this hospital bed, her mind was already back at the company. She wasn’t running things anymore, but she still couldn’t help fretting over every little thing that might go wrong.
“Peyton’s been swamped, it’s true,” Quinn said quickly, squeezing her hand to reassure her. “But he told me yesterday that things are basically under control now. C’mon-you know how capable he is. You’ve got nothing to worry about.”
“Right now, the most important thing for you is to get better and rest up,” she added firmly. “If you’re feeling crummy like this, even if you were at the company, you wouldn’t be able to focus on work at all. So just relax and let us take care of you, okay?”
