As soon as Quinn walked in, she sensed something was eff. She couldn’t help but voice her concern. Peyton always put on a brave face, never burdening her with his troubles.
“It’s nothing to worry about,” Peyton said calmly. “We just have a few projects to collaborate on. That’s why I asked your brother to come over.”
So that was it.
Quinn found it odd.
They’ve never done business together before. Why are they tearing up now, right when the company is in crisis?
In truth, Kieran had come here on his own initiative. Hed heard about the trouble at Peyton’s company. He thought Peyton was carrying too much weight alone and feared he might crumble under the pressure.
Kieran had stopped by to see if he could lend a hand. But as soon as he arrived, he realized the situation was far worse than he’d imagined. Clients were lining up to terminate contracts. The company had already lost several major accounts.
The family drama had shaken everyone’s trust. People doubted Peyton’s position-after all, he wasn’t a blood relative of the Reeds. What if Iris changed her mind and kicked him out someday?
Clients had partnered with Peyton because they trusted him and the company. He and the brand were inseparable. Any sudden change could spell disaster for heir projects.
This uncertainty had sent the company’s stock plummeting.
Kieran had dismissed the rumors at first, but seeing was believing. Now he knew the crisis was real.
Luckily, he had a project that would be perfect for a partnership. If they pulled it off together, it would shift the spotlight back to them.
Kieran was more than willing to extend a helping hand Peyton’s hour of need.
Peyton had been scrambling to fix the company’s problems these past few weeks. But the atmosphere was toxic. His team was on edge, distracted, unable to focus on their work.
“Go ahead and finish up,” Quinn said. “Once you’re done let’s grab dinner together.” She hadn’t seen her brother since she and Peyton got engaged. The sudden union warmed her heart.
“Sure. We’ll wrap this up in no time,” Kieran replied, forging a smile. He didn’t want to let his sister see how bad things really were. He didn’t want her to overhear their work talk either.
He was her big brother. He’d take on as much as he could to lighten her load.
Before long, they wrapped up their discussion and got ady to head out for dinner.
Just as Quinn was about to step out the door, her phone ang.
“Miss Hart? Did Mr. Harrison say anything to you after uner?” Mia asked nervously “How do you think I did tonight?”
She’d been feeling uneasy ever since she got home, a reless knot twisting in her stomach.

Quinn thought back to her conversation with Leo. She hesitated, unsure if she should tell Mia the truth.
Breaking the news would crush her. Mia might not be able to handle it right away. But keeping her in the dark would only string her along, wasting her time and feelings.
Quinn hated being stuck in the middle. She’d never wanted to meddle in their love lives. But now, she had no choice.
After a moment of deliberation, she decided honesty was the best policy.
“Mia… Leo figured out how you feel about him,” Quinn said gently. “We had a serious talk. He’s not interested in dating you, not because there’s anything wrong with you, but because he already has someone else in his heart.
“I was curious too. I wondered what kind of woman could capture his attention like that. But no matter how hard I pressed him, he wouldn’t say who it was.”
