“Miss Hart, I’ve never really loved anyone before,” Mia said, her voice trembling. “He’s the first person who made my heart skip a beat the second I saw him. I just never thought this crush would end so badly. Maybe we were never meant to be in the first place-like we’re from two totally different worlds.
“I stayed up all night thinking about it. Did I do something wrong? Am I not good enough for him? Why doesn’t he like me?”
Tears welled up in Mia’s eyes as she spoke. It wasn’t anger or resentment-just pure heartache and disappointment.
Quinn quickly reached over, gently dabbing the tears from Mia’s cheeks with a tissue. “You didn’t do anything wrong. There’s nothing wrong with you at all. ou two just weren’t a match. Don’t blame yourself for this.
“I promise you-someday, you’ll meet someone who’s perfect for you. Someone who’ll love you with all his heart.”
She spoke softly, her own heart aching for Mia. After all, she’d been the one pushing for them to get together in the first place.
If she’d nipped Mia’s hopes in the bud early on, maybe Mia wouldn’t be hurting this much now. Quinn couldn’t help but feel a twinge of guilt.
But either way, it was over now.
“Leo called me yesterday and said you two weren’t a fit,” Quinn added. “I was so torn about whether to tell you. But in the end, I figured it was better to rip off the band-aid quickly. You deserved to know the truth. He said he already has someone he likes. I’m dying to find out who that lucky woman is.”
Mia wanted so badly to tell her-the woman Leo loved was Quinn herself.
But she held back. It wasn’t her place to spill that secret. After all, Leo and Quinn hadn’t talked about it openly. And Quinn already had a happy life with Peyton now.
Mia knew Leo would never do anything to ruin Quinn’s relationship. If he wasn’t going to say anything. neither should she.
It was better this way-they could all move on amicably even if nothing had ever really started between her
and Leo.
“Miss Hart, Leo’s a really good guy,” Mia said quietly. “I now he didn’t mean to lead me on. I just can’t seem to get over it.
“Sometimes I don’t even know why I feel this way. I have no clue how to fix it. But I guess with time, I’ll heal I’ll move on eventually.”
It was the only thing she could tell herself to get through this. These past few days had been pure agony. Ever since she’d met Leo, she’d felt like she’d lost hersel a little bit.
Even when she was thinking clearly, she knew she shouln’t have gotten so wrapped up in him. But she just couldn’t help it.
“Trust me-time heals all wounds,” Quinn said reassuringly. “Everything will get better. You’ll start a brand- new chapter of your life soon enough. If you feel tired, ke some time off. Go travel, clear your head. I’ll

Quinn was a great boss, but she was saying this not just as a superior-she saw Mia as her best friend. That’s why she trusted her unconditionally.
Mia was an incredibly hard worker, and Quinn had always admired that about her. She wanted to be there for Mia during this tough time.
“I’m really okay, Miss Hart,” Mia said, forcing a small smile. “But your words mean the world to me. They’ve warmed my heart so much. I actually love working here. Being by your side makes me really happy.
“Even if I did go away, I’d still be worrying about the studio nonstop. Besides, I’m not in the mood to travel right now anyway. Let’s wait until we hire new staff and things stabilize. Then I’ll take that vacation.”
Mia didn’t want to leave. She had nowhere else to go, nothing else to do that would make her feel as fulfilled as this job did.
“Deal. I’ll owe you that vacation then,” Quinn said with a grin. “You can cash it in whenever you want.”
Sometimes, Quinn saw Mia as her own little sister.
They’d developed such great chemistry working together. Sometimes, a single glance was all it took for them to understand each other.
