“Kieran, I’m dying to know-how did you two meet?” Quinn asked, genuinely curious. They seemed like such a perfect match, yet it felt like they were from two otally different worlds.
“She’s a dance instructor at a studio downtown,” Kieran replied, a soft smile tugging at his lips. “I met her by accident when I was out for dinner with a friend. I bumped into her, spilled my drink, and ruined her dress. But the second I saw her, I was struck by how elegant and gentle she was. It was love at first sight, honestly.
“I felt terrible about the dress, so I asked for her number to buy her a new one. She tried to turn me down at first, but I insisted. Finally, she gave in and let me have ”
So Kieran had quite the romantic side after all. The story sounded cheesy, sure-but it was also kind of meant to be.
Fate really did work in mysterious ways.
“So you two hit it off right after that?” Quinn said. “Hearing about her past was so heartbreaking. She’s been through so much. But she seems so positive and easy to get along with. I really like her.
“I support you both one hundred percent. You have to treat her right, okay? Don’t ever let her down. She’s had it rough her whole life.”
Quinn had always been the type to feel for others deeply, to care about their feelings more than her own sometimes.
She knew her brother well-he was sharp and reliable, and when it came to his girlfriend, he’d go above and beyond to make her happy.
“Don’t worry about that,” Kieran said firmly. “Now that we’ve decided to be together, I’m in this for the long haul. I’m not going anywhere.”
Kieran was a man of his word. He never messed around with women he wasn’t serious about. He’d been single for years, waiting for the right person to come along. Now that he’d found Hazel, he planned to hold onto her tight.
“She’s been through hell,” Kieran added, his voice softening. “I didn’t go into all the details over dinner Her parents have always favored her brothers, treated her like she was invisible. She’s endured things we can’t even imagine.
“We were talking the other night, and she told me some of her stories. I couldn’t believe how strong she was -how she managed to keep going despite everything.
“That’s what draws me to her, I think. From the momer I met her, I knew she was different. Not many people could grow up in that kind of environment and ill be so optimistic. It’s really admirable.
Quinn and Kieran had grown up in a loving, comfortabl home. They’d never wanted for anything, never had to face the kind of hardship Hazel had.
But she’d turned all that pain into strength, choosing to ve her life with a smile. That alone was something
to respect.
“You’re right,” Quinn said, nodding firmly. “We can’t fully understand what she’s been through But we can help make her future better. We can give her the family he’s always deserved.”
“Alright, enough with the heavy stuff,” Kieran said, clapping his hands. “Now that you two have met, you

should hang out sometime-go shopping, grab coffee, be like sisters. She’s a great person, really kind. You’ll have fun together.”
“Absolutely!” Quinn said, grinning. “I’ll look out for her, promise. I’ll make sure no one ever hurts her again.”
To Quinn, Hazel was already family. And family meant protecting each other, no matter what.
Peyton drove the car in silence, listening to their conversation the whole time. But his expression was tight, his brow furrowed.
When they got home, Quinn noticed he hadn’t said a word all night. She turned to him, concerned. “Peyton, what did you think of Kieran’s girlfriend? Do you like her?”
“She seems nice enough,” Peyton replied flatly. “And she and Kieran definitely make a good pair.”
“But you’ve been quiet this whole time,” Quinn pressed, her eyes narrowing. “It feels like you know something, like you’re holding back. You can tell me, right? Whatever it is, you can trust me.”
Quinn had gotten to know Peyton so well over time. She could read him like a book-and right now, he looked like he was carrying a huge secret.
