Quinn chose her words carefully, her tone warm and sincere. She’d thought of every way to put Hazel at
case.
Sure enough, Hazel visibly relaxed after hearing her tall Her mood lifted a little.
“Thanks, Quinn. I know you’re swamped with work. I shouldn’t dump my bad mood on you. You don’t have to do this for me,” Hazel said. She didn’t want to feel like she was taking charity-and she knew Quinn was only doing this for Kieran’s sake.
“I’m not that busy right now, honestly. I’ve got plenty of free time,” Quinn replied. “You can call me anytime you want. I really like hanging out with you. We can totally be friends!
“Seriously, if you’ve got something on your mind, anything at all, you can tell me. I can help you work through it, or just listen. Even if I can’t fix it, I’m happy to be your emotional punching bag!”
Quinn made her stance clear, her tone firm. Deep down she hoped Hazel would open up about her secrets. She figured if they got everything out in the open, their relationship would naturally grow stronger.
Unfortunately, Hazel had no intention of sharing her past with anyone-least of all the Harts.
“Thank you, Quinn,” she said softly.
They chatted for a while longer before Hazel left the cafe.
As soon as Hazel left, she dialed Kieran’s number right away.
“Hey, Kieran. Hazel just talked to me. She’s super sensitive, and she’s definitely noticed you pulling away,” Quinn said without beating around the bush. “She told me you’ve been ignoring her these past few days. Let’s be real-she basically came to me to complain. She’s not happy with you. I really think you two need to have a serious talk.
“You guys are supposed to be in the honeymoon phase of your relationship. If you keep pushing her away like this, it’s not fair to her.
“You don’t have to torture yourself with this. Instead of making yourself miserable, just come clean to her. Tell her you know about her past.”
Quinn thought both of them were being ridiculous, dragging out this painful limbo for no reason. She had no clue what they were even waiting for.
As it turned out, Kieran felt the exact same way.
“Sorry for dragging you into this, Quinn,” Kieran said, his voice laced with guilt. “I know you’ve got enough on your plate with work and everything going on at home. I never should’ve dumped my relationship drama on you.
“You’re right, though. We need to talk this through. Relationships are all about honesty. There shouldn’t be secrets like this between us.”
Kieran was a level-headed guy, always thinking things through carefully. If he wanted this relationship to work long-term, he knew they couldn’t keep sweeping er past under the rug.
Everyone had a history, after all. Some things were out one’s control. What mattered wasn’t what had happened before-it was how they chose to face it together now.

“Alright, that’s my brother. I know you’ll figure this out, Quinn said. “I’ll stop nagging you now. Go get back
to work.”
After hanging up with Quinn, Kieran hesitated for a moment, then picked up his phone again. He sent Hazel a text, asking her to meet him.
Thirty minutes later, the two of them sat across from each other at their agreed-upon restaurant.
Hazel was clearly still upset, giving him the cold shoulder.
