She not only called her out of the blue-she actually showed up in person.

Quinn rushed to agree. “Sure thing. But I’m not at the studio yet. I’m still on my way to work. Can you wait a bit? I’ll be there in a flash.”

“Okay.”

Ten minutes later.

Quinn arrived at the studio entrance. Hazel was already waiting for her inside a café nearby.

“Sorry I’m late,” Quinn said, sitting down across from her. “Rush hour traffic was brutal. You must’ve come here for something important, right?”

Panic fluttered in her chest. Something had to be wrong between Hazel and Kieran for Hazel to track her down like this-especially first thing in the morning.

“Quinn, have you talked to your brother lately?” Hazel asked, cutting straight to the chase. She knew Quinn was busy and didn’t want to waste her time. “He’s been acting so weird these past few days. He’s not the same with me anymore. I had to come ask you-what’s going on?”

“My brother?” Quinn blinked, caught off guard. Women really were sharp as tacks. The only reason Hazel would reach out like this was that she’d sensed the shift in her relationship with Kieran.

No way she’d be this proactive otherwise.

“Hazel, I haven’t really talked to him much these days either,” Quinn said carefully. “But honestly? If something’s bothering you two, you should just talk it out. That’s the only way to fix it fast.

“Or maybe you’re just overthinking it. He’s probably swamped with work. You know he’s got that big project going with Peyton, right? Peyton’s been tied up nonstop too-I haven’t even seen him in days. So don’t worry about it too much.

“My brother’s a solid guy. He’s super reliable. I promise ou, nothing’s wrong.”

Quinn knew exactly why Hazel was here-she’d definitely picked up on the tension. But she also knew Kieran was just stuck. He hadn’t figured out how to handle things yet, so he’d been avoiding Hazel instead of reaching out.

“Alright. If you say so, I’ll wait a little longer,” Hazel conceded.

They were clearly head-over-heels in the honeymoon phase, thinking about each other 24/7. That explained why she was so on edge.

Quinn hadn’t felt that kind of all-consuming love in a long time, but she totally got it. After all, the two of them were crazy about each other.

“Exactly! I’ll chew him out later-tell him no matter how busy work gets, he can’t ditch his girlfriend,” Quinn said with a reassuring grin. “He’s been slacking off a bit these days, I’ll admit. But once things calm down, he’ll make it up to you big time!”

At the end of the day, they were still a couple. If they worked things out, they’d keep going strong. So Quinn wanted to leave them some space, let them figure out their relationship on their own terms.

“Thanks, Quinn. I know you’ve got a million things going on with your own work and the company stuff.” Hazel said softly. “I didn’t want to bother you with this, but I just… I don’t feel secure right now.

“I guess it’s just my personality. I’ve never really felt safe not since I was a kid.”

Yeah, growing up in a family like hers-what else could one expect?
