Her tone was unyielding. No room for negotiation. No chance to fix things.

Kieran felt helpless. He had no clue what to do, no idea how to salvage what was left of their relationship.

“Enough!”

Hazel grabbed her bag, stood up, and walked out without a second glance.

Kieran was left sitting alone at the table. His mind went completely blank, his chest heavy with a jumble of emotions he couldn’t untangle. He had no idea what to do next.

It took him a long time to finally leave the restaurant. When he did, he headed straight to Quinn’s place.

“Kieran? What are you doing here?” Quinn asked, surprised. It was already late. She could tell from his face that something terrible had happened.

“We broke up.”

Broke up?

Quinn was stunned. She’d never seen this coming. She pressed him for details, desperate to understand what had gone wrong.

Kieran told her everything-every word of the argument, every heart-wrenching moment. His voice was thick with frustration.

“I never expected her to react like this. I told her I didn’t care about her past. I told her I wanted to stay with her no matter what. But she just… she shut me out. She aid we were done.

“I don’t get it. I made it clear her past didn’t change how I felt. I wasn’t going anywhere. But she was the one who wanted to end things. She was so… ruthless.”

He shook his head, still reeling from the shock of it all. le couldn’t wrap his mind around her decision.

“Kieran, think about it,” Quinn said gently, her voice sof with understanding. “This secret was like a scar she’d buried deep. You didn’t just tell her you knew-you ripped that scar wide open again.

“Scars can heal, even if they leave a mark. They stop huing after a while. But you opened hers back up. Of course it was painful for her. Of course she panicked.”

As an outsider looking in, Quinn saw the situation clearly. She understood why Hazel had run away from him.

“She’s probably overwhelmed right now. She can’t face you. I think she said those things in the heat of the moment-out of anger and fear. Not because she really meant them.

“You needed time to process finding out about her past, ight? So give her time too. She needs space to breathe.”

Quinn hated seeing her brother in so much pain. But she was an outsider. She couldn’t truly feel what he was feeling. She could only offer him comfort and perspective.

Kieran had already come to terms with Hazel’s past. He been ready to move forward with her. He’d been ready to fight for their relationship. But she’d slammed the door in his face before he could even try.

He couldn’t accept it. He wasn’t ready to let go.

“I never wanted to give up on her,” Kieran said quietly. “That’s why I’ve been so torn up these past few days. I’ll talk to her again soon when things calm down. Tonight was just too much for her.”

He sighed, defeated. To him, relationships were about honesty. About facing problems together, not running away from them.

Hazel had been through hell. He knew that. He wanted to be the one to help her heal. But she wouldn’t let him.

“Come on, Kieran. Don’t look so miserable,” Quinn said patting his arm. “Everything will work out. I hate seeing you like this-so broken up over a girl.”
