Quinn turned to Peyton, knowing he always had a level head on his shoulders-he never jumped into things without a plan.
“I agree. Give her some space. Once she’s had time to cool off, she might change her mind. Find a chance to sit down and really talk to her,” Peyton said gently.
He could tell Kieran still loved Hazel deeply. He wouldn’t be this torn up if he didn’t care. Any guy who was willing to stick around after learning about a partner’s painful past truly meant what he said.
If there was still love between them, nothing was unsolvable. All they needed was to lay everything out on the table, move past the shadow of her history, and things would get better.
“I feel like this is my fault,” Peyton sighed, a tinge of regret in his voice. “If I hadn’t looked into her background, none of this would’ve happened. You two could’ve kept going like nothing was wrong-like that part of her past never existed.”
He hated that he’d meddled. Relationships were messy enough on their own. He shouldn’t have gotten involved.
Kieran shook his head firmly. “Secrets never stay buried forever. If we’d gotten married and I found out later? That would’ve hurt way more. It would’ve destroyed any trust we had between us.
“We’re still new. If we have to break up now, it’ll hurt, but it won’t be the end of the world. And if we can work through this? Even better. Either way, I won’t regret it.”
He was glad he’d found out now, not later. Love couldn’t be forced. It was better to face the truth head-on than to live a lie.
“Exactly,” Quinn chimed in, her tone resolute. “If you hadn’t dug into this, we’d never have seen who she really is what she’s hiding under the surface.
“Better to fix the problem now than let it fester. That way, everyone can move forward with peace of mind.”
“Alright, you two should get some rest,” Kieran said, pushing himself up from the couch. “The company’s been keeping you busy. Don’t wear yourselves out.”
Even with his heart in pieces, he still cared about Quinn and Peyton. He didn’t want his problems to weigh them down.
“Don’t worry about us, Kieran,” Quinn said softly. “Your problems are what matter right now.”
She made up her mind then and there to talk to Hazel. They were friends now. Sometimes it was easier to open up to someone outside the relationship-someone who wasn’t clouded by emotion.
The next morning.
Quinn got up bright and early and headed to the studio A pile of work was waiting for her, and she tackled it head-on.
Once she’d wrapped up her tasks, she pulled out her phone and dialed Hazel’s number.
To her relief, Hazel answered.
“Hazel, I heard about you and my brother,” Quinn said without beating around the bush. “Do you have time?

“Quinn, I’m not feeling great today. Can we do this another time?” Hazel replied, her voice flat and distant.
It was clear she didn’t want to talk-not now, not about this.
“Hazel, I’m already downstairs at your place,” Quinn said gently. “Just open the door for me, please? I know you’re not at the dance studio-I checked.”
She’d swung by the studio on her way over, and the staff had confirmed Hazel hadn’t shown up that day.
“Fine,” Hazel sighed, giving in.
She hesitated for a moment, then agreed to meet. Some conversations were long overdue.
Quinn made her way up to Hazel’s apartment.
