Chapter 205 Plea for Surgery

Peyton felt a warm glow in his chest. Having someone by his side who cared meant the world to him. But he hated seeing Quinn worry about his family’s mess.

“I won’t do it,” Iris said firmly, no hint of hesitation in her voice. “I’m too old to take that kind of risk. Surgery will be miserable, and recovery will take forever I don’t want to lie in a hospital bed, suffering every single day.

“My health isn’t great now, but at least I’m free. I can walk around, do what I want. After surgery? I’ll be stuck in bed, and who knows how long it’ll take to heal. At my age, the risk is too high. I’m not going through with it.”

“But thank you both for caring,” she added softly. “I know you’re only trying to help. But surgery is off the table. No more discussions.”

“Mrs. Reed, it’s just a minimally invasive procedure,” Quinn pleaded, refusing to give up. “You won’t even have to stay in the hospital long. The incision will heal in two days.

“Peyton hired the best specialists from home and abroad. They’re experts at this-they’ve done this surgery successfully dozens of times. We wouldn’t suggest it if there was any real risk. We know you’re too old for pain. We’d never put you through that.”

“It breaks our hearts to see you suffer like this,” she continued, her voice gentle but earnest. “That’s why we went through all this trouble to find these doctors. Please, just consider it.”

“Give it one last try. If the surgery doesn’t help, we’ll never bring it up again. We promise we won’t push you anymore,” Quinn begged.

She’d researched the procedure thoroughly, convinced it was safe. But deep down, she was terrified. If anything went wrong, Harold and Brandon would never let them live it down-even though their only goal was to help Iris.

No one else in the family cared enough to find doctors for her, to try to extend her life. Only she and Peyton were willing to go to such lengths.

Iris felt a twinge of sadness. Her poor health was no ones fault but her own. Years of overworkin their toll. Now, at her age, she was stuck dealing with constant stress-plus two sons who only ca fighting over the company.

“I know you’ve spent countless hours and so much effort on this,” Iris said, her voice tired. “I know it w easy to bring those foreign doctors here. But I told you last time-I’m not doing the surgery.

“I’m too old for all this hassle. You’d feel the same if you were in my shoes. Drop it, please. You’re both so busy with work. Don’t waste any more time on me.”

Her heart was warm, though. Peyton and Quinn had done everything they could for her. Having them by her side was the greatest blessing.

“Mrs. Reed, I understand how you feel,” Quinn said softly. “Peyton’s put so much into this. But I’m not asking you to decide now. Don’t tell him we talked abou this-let it be our little secret. Think it over for two days. If you still feel the same way then, I’ll tell him. Deal?”

She needed Iris to give the surgery a chance, It was the best thing for her health.

“Alright, I’ll think about it,” Iris smiled. “Having you two are about me this much… it makes me so happy.”
