Chapter 40 Reckless Advances

After saying that, Derek became even more reckless. He placed his hand directly on Quinn’s blouse, forcing the buttons open.
“Mr. Ford, what are you doing?” Quinn struggled. “I won’t argue with you because you’re drunk, but don’t push your luck!”
She fought hard, but as a woman, she was no match for a man’s strength.
The harder she struggled, the more excited Derek got.
The harder it is to get something, the better it is. He’d been unable to contain himself the moment he saw Quinn.
He’d always been this way.
“Miss Hart, we’re alone here,” Derek said with a smile. “I sent my assistant away hours ago. So stop pretending. And I promise–no one else will ever know about this!”
Quinn pushed him away, using her chair as a shield. “I came here to discuss business, Mr. Ford. If we can’t agree, there’s nothing left to talk about!”
She grabbed her documents and started to leave.
Derek chased after her, tackling her into his arms.
“Who said you could leave?” he demanded. “When we’re having dinner and drinks, there’s no leaving!”
“Let go of me!”
Quinn struggled frantically.
“Don’t play hard to get,” Derek sneered. “I’ve heard all about you. I heard you left that cheating ex–fiancé Felix and moved on already. What’s the excuse now? You don’t want a man? But you’re engaged, aren’t you?”
“You probably already have someone lined up,” he added. “Don’t act so innocent. We both know what’s going on here. Stop playing games with me!”
“So what’s the harm in adding me?” he continued. “If you satisfy me tonight, I’ll make sure your patents get approved. It’s a win–win. Why wouldn’t you agree?”
Derek was getting angrier by the second. His words became more vulgar, and his hands grew rougher.
Quinn froze.
How could a man say such things? Sure, all men are the same!
“Let go of me! Don’t touch me!
“Get off me!”
The harder she fought, the tighter he held on. He had no intention of letting go.

With her blouse on the verge of being torn off, Quinn felt despair. Then she had an idea. She picked up a wine glass from the table and smashed it down on Derek’s head.
He released her, and she ran out of the room.
Before she left, she saw a pool of blood on his forehead. He collapsed to the ground, unconscious.
But she didn’t have time to check on him. She had to get out–what if he woke up and chased after her?
Quinn ran outside, her hands shaking. It was the first time she’d ever hit someone. She wondered if he was okay.
When she reached the parking lot, she found Derek’s car. His assistant was inside.
Your boss is upstairs.” she said. “He’s hurt. You should go check on him.”
She still felt bad for him. She couldn’t live with herself if something happened to him.
But she’d acted in self–defense. If she hadn’t fought back, she might not have made it out.
“Kieran. I need to talk to you.” Quinn said into the phone.
“I’m on my way. Where are you?”
Twenty minutes later, they met at the hotel. Seeing her disheveled hair, Kieran asked anxiously, “What happened: Did someone hurt you?”
Quinn didn’t hold back. She told him everything that had happened.
“I told you I’d come with you.” Kieran said. “You never listen. Did he hurt you?”
Quinn shook her head. “I hit him. But it was self–defense!”
“I told you this would happen.” Kieran said. “I said I’d handle your patents. If you’d come home with me, everything would be taken care of. But you wouldn’t listen. Look what happened.”
Seeing his sister unharmed, Kieran finally relaxed. But he was still angry and worried.
“Kieran, some things I have to handle myself,” Quinn said. “No one can help me. And I don’t want to rely on you forever!”
“I and Mom and Dad will always be here for you,” he said firmly. “You can lean on us for your whole life. From now on, no more business dinners alone.”
“I know you love your career,” he continued. “I won’t stop you from doing what you love. But you have to listen to me!”
Kieran loved his sister deeply. He knew she was strong–willed and always wanted to make a name for herself.
But he would not let this happen again. Next time, she might not be so lucky.
