Yet he still couldn’t swallow his anger. He’d spent most of his life building his business–only to have it all destroyed by a woman!
“Don’t come any closer!
“Someone help! Help!”
Mia clung tightly to Quinn, shielding her in her arms. But at that terrible moment, not a single passerby was around.
Derek’s crazed appearance was terrifying.
“Help! Help!”
He lunged at them like a caged beast set free, his eyes bloodshot with rage. With a vicious kick, he sent Mia crashing to the ground.
“Mia!”
Quinn instinctively rushed to check on her–only for Derek to grab her by the collar and yank her toward him. His grip tightened around her neck, cutting off her breath.
Derek unleashed all his fury and resentment, throwing punches and kicks at her.
Quinn lay on the ground, defenseless against his assault.
He tore at her clothes, his strength growing more violent as if fueled by the chaos.
“Finally got my chance, huh, Miss Hart!”
He didn’t care that it was broad daylight.
Just as her clothes were being torn apart, a fist suddenly slammed into Derek’s face.
Three men in black suits quickly followed, pinning him to the ground and giving him a harsh beating.
Quinn blinked through the pain, and a familiar profile came into view.
It was Peyton!
Quinn froze for a few seconds. It was the first time she’d seen him up close–sharp jawline, sun–kissed skin. and eyes as cold as ice.
Peyton took off his suit jacket and wrapped it around her, then lifted her into his arms and carried her to the car.
“Mia’s still there…” Quinn worried, her voice weak.
“They’ll take care of her. Don’t worry,” Peyton said gently as he placed her in the car.
His men brought over a first–aid kit. Peyton took out alcohol wipes and began cleaning her wounds himself.

“Hiss…
The stinging pain of the alcohol made her flinch.
“Does it hurt? I’ll be gentler. Peyton said, his movements careful.
He was already being as gentle as he could.
“No, it’s fine.” Quinn replied, staying perfectly still.
It took a while for Peyton to finish treating her injuries. Looking at her bruised, disheveled state, a flicker of concern softened his cold eyes.
He took her to his villa.
“What are we doing here?” Quinn asked, confused and awkward in the unfamiliar surroundings.
This will be your future home. I wanted to show you around. Rest here today.” Peyton said–not asking, but informing her.
Quinn followed him inside.
He led her to a guest room on the second floor. “Sleep here tonight. Call Mabel if you need anything.”
“Okay.” Quinn nodded.
A kind–looking woman followed them upstairs, bustling about to tidy the room. “Miss Hart. you’re hurt. Lie down and rest.” she said warmly. “I’m in the next room. Just call if you need me.”
After settling Quinn in. Peyton received a call from the company.
Ill be right there,” he said.
“Take good care of her. Call me if anything happens,” he told Mabel Bennett before hurrying out.
It was Quinn’s first time staying at his place, and she felt uneasy. She shifted slightly and lay down on the bed.
Soon after, there was a knock at the door. Quinn sat up.
“Miss Hart, this is an ointment from my hometown,” Mabel said, holding out a small jar. “It works wonders on wounds. Use it tonight, and you’ll feel better tomorrow–no scars, I promise!
“You have such a beautiful face. Scars would be a shame. Let me apply it for you
Mabel was warm and friendly–exactly why Peyton trusted her to stay in his home.
“Thank you, Mabel, but I can do it myself. Please rest, Quinn said, feeling a little uncomfortable with the
fuss.
“It’s no trouble at all,” Mabel insisted. “I know it’s your first time here, but you’ll get used to it. Feel free to ask for anything. I’ve worked for Mr. Reed for nearly ten years. He’s always been kind to me, so don’t be shy.”

Quinn smiled and glanced around the room, then asked casually, “Mabel, does he often bring people
home?
Mabel chuckled. “Miss Hart, you’re the first woman he’s ever brought here–I swear it! And I can see in Mr. Reed’s eyes how much he cares about you.
“Over the years, plenty of young ladies have thrown themselves at him, but he’s never treated anyone like this. Most of the time. he ignores them completely!”
A small smile tugged at Quinn’s lips. For some reason. her heart felt warm and light.
