Chapter 9 A Well-Meaning Warning

Quinn took the gift box with steady hands, passed it gracefully to Reginald, and offered him a gentle, polite smile.

“This is a gift specially picked out for your sister. I hope she likes it.”

Reginald reached out with his long fingers and lifted the lid slowly. His eyes were immediately drawn to the contents inside—a pair of earrings.

Named “Tears of the Ocean”, they glowed with a mysterious, deep blue shimmer under the lights, like stars twinkling in the dark sea.

Reginald raised an eyebrow, surprise flickering across his face as he blurted out, “You’re Kieran Hart’s sister?”

Quinn nodded slightly, her expression calm and composed, her voice soft but clear. “Yes, my name is Quinn Hart. If there’s nothing else, we’ll take our leave now.”

She carried herself with perfect poise and decorum. Even after everything that had just happened, not a hint of anger or resentment crossed her face. Her demeanor remained as steady as a still lake.

Reginald clicked his tongue softly, a meaningful smirk tugging at his lips as he sized her up.

“Miss Hart, Kieran and I are as thick as thieves. His sister is practically my sister too.

“I’ve heard a thing or two about you and Felix. As someone who’s been around the block, let me give you a piece of advice-he’s not good enough for you.”

Quinn blinked in slight surprise, then quickly regained her composure, her gaze steady and unflinching. “Thank you for the warning, Mr. Hale. We’ve already broken up.

“I’ll be agreeing to an arranged marriage through my family soon. You and your brother are more than welcome to attend.”

With that, Quinn dipped her head in a polite nod, turned gracefully on her heel, and walked away-her steps light but resolute.

Reginald stood rooted to the spot, watching her retreating figure. He narrowed his eyes slightly, a flicker of amusement in his gaze. “She’s interesting. No wonder Peyton has been hung up on her all these years.”

Roman stood nearby, arms folded over his chest, a playful grin spreading across his face as he teased, “So what if he’s hung up on her? She doesn’t even like him back. It’s not like it matters.”

He shook his head lightly and let out a chuckle.

“Is that so?” Reginald murmured, his tone thoughtful. “I’m not so sure about that.”

Quinn hurried along, walking briskly toward the exit with Mia trailing beside her. Her expression was set with determination.

She turned her head slightly and lowered her voice, speaking only to Mia. “Mia, take a few days off starting tomorrow. And I need you to handle something discreetly for me.

“Liquidate all the shares I own in the company, plus any other assets under my name. Transfer everything into this account.”

Mia’s expression turned sharp and alert. She straightened her back immediately and nodded solemnly. “Right away, Miss Hart. I’ll get on it at once-no delays.”

Quinn nodded in approval, pulled her car keys out of her bag, and handed them to Mia. Her voice was calm but carried an air of finality. “Here are my keys. I’ve already called you a ride. Finish what you need to do and head home to rest early.”

Quinn planned to go back alone, find a quiet place to sort through her thoughts, and just… breathe.

Mia took the keys, shot Quinn a worried glance, but said nothing more before turning and leaving.

Quinn took a deep breath, squared her shoulders, and stepped outside.

“Felix was just worried sick about me getting hurt-that’s why he sounded so harsh. Please don’t

take it to heart.”

As Lila spoke, she fluttered her eyelashes deliberately, putting on that signature doe-eyed, innocent act.

Watching her over-the-top, fake display of contrition made Quinn’s stomach churn. She felt a wave of nausea wash over her.

She stepped back quickly, putting distance between them, and glared at Lila with undisguised disgust. “Do me a favor-take your little boyfriend and get the hell out of here.

“Disappear from my life entirely. And don’t ever show your face to me again. You’re nothing but a nuisance.”

“Quinn, what is wrong with you?” Felix roared, his eyes blazing with fury. “Lila didn’t do anything wrong! Not only did you refuse to apologize to her properly, you almost got her hurt!

“She’s kind enough not to hold it against you, and this is how you repay her? Do you even have a shred of decency left? Any sense of right and wrong?”

Felix’s gaze cut into Quinn like a blade. His words were sharp and accusatory, dripping with rage as he stood on his moral high ground, tearing her down completely,
