With that, he lunged forward, snatching Quinn’s wrist in a crushing grip-so hard it felt like her bones would snap.
Quinn winced in pain, her brows knitting tight as she struggled to yank free. But Felix only tightened his hold, dragging her roughly toward the car, his voice sharp with accusation.
“I get it. You’re mad I’ve been busy lately, that I haven’t been around as much as before. So you’re taking it out on Lila-deliberately picking on her, isn’t that right?”
Lila stood off to the side, her eyes glistening with fake tears, her voice soft and syrupy sweet as she piped up. “Felix, don’t talk to her like that. She’s just upset because she loves you so much- she lost her head for a second, that’s all.
“It’s all my fault. I keep getting in the way of you two. Maybe I should just go back to the countryside. Then you won’t fight over me anymore.”
Her words sounded like she was pleading for peace, but every sentence poured fuel on the fire -making Felix’s anger toward Quinn burn even hotter.
Watching the two of them tag-team her like this, Quinn’s head spun. Rage boiled inside her. She wanted nothing more than to grab a bucket of cold water and douse them both, to snap them out of their ridiculous charade.
Lila clung tightly to Felix’s sleeve, as if she was scared he’d vanish the second she let go. Felix, meanwhile, kept his other hand clamped around Quinn’s wrist, trying to keep control of the chaos. But he still found time to glance back at Lila, his gaze soft and reassuring as he murmured, “Don’t be afraid.”
Quinn’s eyes flashed with fury, her jaw tightening. She slammed her hand around Felix’s wrist, squeezing back with a force that matched his own-like she meant to shatter his bones.
Then she spun around, her long, graceful leg whipping up in a sharp, powerful kick that cut through the air. It hit Felix square where it hurt.
Felix let out a choked grunt. His face drained of all color in an instant. His hands flew to his groin, his body doubling over in agony as beads of sweat popped up on his forehead.
But Quinn wasn’t done. She lifted her high-heeled foot and ground it down hard on his expensive custom-made leather shoes, the sharp heel scraping against the leather with a shrill, ear-splitting squeak.
“Felix Cole, you disgust me,” she spat, her voice cold enough to freeze blood. Each word was sharp, like it was carved from ice. Then she turned on her heel and walked away-her steps elegant but unyielding, leaving nothing but a sharp, decisive silhouette behind her.

Lila rushed forward the second she was gone, throwing her arms around the staggering Felix, her voice thick with concern. “Felix! Are you okay? We need to get you to the hospital-now!”
Felix stayed hunched over, his vision blurring as he stared in the direction Quinn had left. In that moment, a wave of fear crashed over him-something he’d never felt before. It was like she’d walked out of his life for good, and he’d never get her back.
The emergency room lights were harsh and blinding.
The doctor finished his exam, pulled back the curtain, and peeled off his mask, tossing his gloves into the nearby trash can without a second glance. He looked between Felix and Lila, his tone laced with playful teasing.
“Your groin’s fine. But you two lovebirds need to dial it down a notch, huh? A little roughhousing is one thing-don’t take it too far next time!”
Lila’s face flushed bright red, all the way to the tips of her ears. She ducked her head, twisting the hem of her dress nervously between her fingers, and mumbled a shy, “I understand, doctor.”
“Doctor, you’ve got it wrong. She’s my sister,” Felix said weakly. He propped himself up on one hand, struggling to sit upright, his face still pale as a sheet. He was desperate to clear up the awkward misunderstanding.
Felix sighed softly, a flicker of helplessness crossing his face. He said quietly, “It’s alright. She won’t hold it against you.”
The car pulled up to the villa. Felix couldn’t contain himself any longer. He threw open
the door and sprinted inside, moving so fast it was like he was scared he’d miss Quinn by even a single second.
Lila stood rooted to the spot, watching his hurried figure disappear into the house. Her soft, innocent expression vanished in an instant. Her eyes turned cold and vicious, filled with seething hatred. Her hands clenched into tight fists, the fabric of her dress crumpling in her grip.
Felix burst through the villa door. The house was dead silent, swallowed up by darkness-an empty, suffocating quiet.
He froze in the doorway, memories of happier times flooding his mind like a tidal wave.
Once upon a time, every time he’d come home, the living room lights would be on—warm, golden glow spilling over every corner. Quinn would be sitting on the couch, either reading a book or glued to a TV show. She’d look up when she heard him, and her face would light up with that soft, gentle smile of hers.
Felix reached out and flipped the light switch. Bright, harsh light flooded the room, chasing away the dark.
He glanced slowly around the familiar space-at the couch, the coffee table, all the things that should have felt like home. But something was missing. A huge, empty hole gnawed at his chest, making his heart ache.
Blurry fragments of memory flashed through his mind-quick, like lightning. But every he tried to grab onto them, to make sense of what had gone wrong, they slipped away, vanishing without a trace.
