Chapter 91 Push for Babies

Finished

Despite Harold’s selfish schemes and underhanded dealings at the company all these years, Iris had never been able to bring herself to kick them out of the family.

But today was different. She had no other choice.

“Mom, you’ve broken my heart,” Harold choked out, his voice thick with hurt and rage. “I never thought things would end up like this. Fine!”

Harold’s whole family stormed out without a second glance. Not even a single thought for Iris’ birthday. If they’d truly cared about her, they would have stayed to celebrate no matter what.

Donna hadn’t wanted to leave-not when they hadn’t gotten what they came for. But Harold had already lost his patience and couldn’t stand to stay another minute.

This wasn’t over, though. They were going to get justice one way or another.

Once they were gone, only Iris and Peyton’s family remained in the room.

“Iris, please don’t let them ruin your mood,” Eleanor said gently, stepping forward to pat her shoulder. “They’re not worth your anger. I never thought Harold and his family would sink this low. I know you handed the company over to Peyton because you trust him. Because you know he can run it right.

“I believe he’ll never let you down. I know they think it’s unfair, but I stand by your decision. Not because he’s my son-but because he’s the only one who can make this company thrive. It’s your life’s work, after all.”

Eleanor might have seemed sharp around the edges, but she was sensible. She saw things clearly, no nonsense about her.

Iris was in a foul mood. She’d chased them away, but they were still her flesh and blood. How could she bear to watch them walk out like that?

“Sigh…

“I never wanted things to turn out this way,” she murmured, her voice heavy with sorrow. “But they went too far. I don’t know when it happened-when all Harold cared about was money. When he stopped caring about family at all.

“Back in the day, it was just us three-me and the boys, struggling to get by. They were so close back then. Harold always looked out for his little brother, saved the best treats for him. How did things get so twisted?”

Iris shook her head, grief etched into every line of her face. She just couldn’t understand it.

“Iris, don’t torture yourself trying to figure it out,” Eleanor said softly. “You don’t owe them anything. If they could do this to you on your birthday, they never cared about you in the first place. They went way too far.

“Don’t worry, we’ll spend more time with you from now on. I know it gets lonely here, with nothing to fill your days. Once Peyton and Quinn get engaged, they can start thinking about having kids.

“Then they can bring the baby over often. It’ll liven things up around here-give you something to look forward to every day!”

Chapter 91 Push for Babies

Finished

Eleanor had it all planned out, her eyes sparkling with excitement. She’d been waiting for this for ages.

“That would be wonderful!” Iris’ face lit up. “I’ve been dying to hold my great-grandchild. It’s my biggest wish in life!”

Quinn listened to their conversation, her head spinning.

How did they end up talking aboutthis? About babies, of all things?

It was way too much pressure. She’d never even thought about that part of things yet.

“Mom, don’t push Quinn,” Peyton said calmly, cutting in before things went any further. “We haven’t even set a date for the engagement yet. This is all way too soon.”

He didn’t want to pressure Quinn into anything. They’d never even had a real conversation about kids.

If she wanted them someday, he’d be thrilled. But if she didn’t? He’d never force her.

But Quinn found herself glancing over at him, a tiny flicker of doubt creeping into her mind.

Is it possible he doesn’t want kids with me? Even though weare supposed to get engaged?

She’d always felt a little lost when it came to their relationship. She never quite knew where she stood with him.

He was always so close, yet somehow still so far away. They’d never really talked about their feelings-never really opened up to each other.

And yet, Quinn couldn’t deny the way she felt about him lately. She was starting to rely on him, to want to share everything with him. It scared her, how quickly those feelings were growing.

“It’s not too soon at all!” Eleanor insisted, refusing to back down. “You two can start preparing now-eating right, getting plenty of rest. Peyton, starting today, you’re coming home on time every night. No more overtime at the office. You finish all your work during the day!

“And no more unnecessary business dinners, either. You need to get your body and your schedule in shape. It’ll help the baby come along healthy and strong!”

Eleanor was practically glowing with anticipation, her eyes shifting to Quinn with a warm, expectant smile.
