Chapter 97 The Midnight Emergency Call
Some things, however, could never be truly resolved.

“Don’t worry, Grandma. I’ve hired the best foreign specialists to treat her legs,” Peyton assured her. “They’re already working on a surgical plan. The operation will happen soon.”
Over the years, Peyton had kept up with medical advancements. He knew modern medicine was making breakthroughs in once-untreatable conditions.
Rehabilitation centers for people like Wendy were becoming more advanced, developing better treatments
all the time.
Foreign experts were even researching ways to completely cure permanent disabilities like hers.
So Peyton held onto hope. He’d never given up on her.
If she could walk again someday, his guilt might finally ease. He could move on with his own life.
“That’s good to hear. But be careful when you’re with her,” Iris warned. “Don’t let your issues with Wendy affect your relationship with Quinn.
“Quinn is very understanding, but she’s still human. She’ll mind eventually-even if she doesn’t say it out loud. Pay attention to her feelings. Never ignore them.”
Iris repeated her warnings, fearing Quinn might get hurt.
“I know, Grandma. I’ll handle it carefully,” Peyton promised. “Quinn already knows about Wendy. She understands and even offered to help. But I won’t burden her with this.”
Peyton always acted with discretion, planning everything carefully.
“Grandma, don’t worry about Harold’s family. I won’t be too harsh. I won’t leave them destitute.
“But I get so angry when I see how cruel they are to you. How heartless they can be.”
Peyton rarely shared his true feelings with Iris. He was never one to open up easily.
But seeing how upset she was, he couldn’t hold back. These were his most sincere thoughts.
He wanted her to know he’d never push Harold’s family to the brink. Despite what she said, Iris had a soft heart.
“I’ve already given up on them completely,” Iris admitted. “They’ve never respected me or considered my feelings.
“So Ldon’t care what they do anymore. I’m getting old. I can’t spend the rest of my life worrying about them. How you choose to handle them is entirely up to you.”
Iris had finally let go. She made it clear she wouldn’t force Peyton to do anything he didn’t want. He had no obligation to support Harold’s family forever.
They talked late into the night, sharing their true feelings with each other.

Chapter 97 The Midnight Emergency Call
Finished
By the time Peyton left her room, it was already very late. He returned to his own room to finish some work.
Just as he was about to go to bed, his phone rang.
Who’s calling at this hour?
He checked the screen. It was Wendy’s maid.
“Mr. Reed, it’s an emergency! Miss Parker has had a high fever all day.” The maid panicked. “I tried to get her to go to the hospital, but she refused. She drank alcohol tonight and won’t take any medicine!
“She’s in her room throwing things. Her mental state is really bad. Please come quickly!”
Peyton frowned deeply.
What is Wendy up to now?
He knew if he didn’t handle this personally, she’d never let it rest.
“I’ll be right there,” he replied.
He couldn’t stay with Iris any longer. He had to go resolve this immediately. If something happened to Wendy, he’d never forgive himself. O
He knew exactly what this was about. She was upset because he hadn’t taken her to Iris’ birthday party.
But she’d put herself in this state, and he had no choice but to go.
Thirty minutes later, Peyton arrived at Wendy’s house as fast as he could.
Her bedroom door was locked, but the lights were still on. It was already three in the morning, and she hadn’t slept.
“Mr. Reed, you’re finally here!” the maid exclaimed. “Miss Parker hasn’t eaten all day. She’s locked herself in her room and won’t let anyone in!”
