But how exactly was she supposed to make Juniper’s defeat even more humiliating?
"What’s your brilliant idea?"
Sheryl asked, inspecting her flawless manicure while eyeing Yolanda with a sinister, calculating squint.
"Well..."
Yolanda sat beside her, her lips curving into a demure smile. "From what I know, the university doesn’t have that many spare tennis rackets on hand. Most of them are ancient anyway."
"If Juniper’s racket were to mysteriously break mid-match, and she couldn't find a replacement... wouldn't she look like a pathetic little clown standing out there all alone?"
"Interesting. Keep talking."
Sheryl listened intently, a smirk tugging at the corners of her mouth.
"Sheryl, you're the president of the tennis club, aren't you?"
Yolanda blinked her wide, innocent eyes, looking every bit the sweet, naive student. "Arranging for a few rackets to get 'damaged,' or having the key to the equipment room conveniently go missing... that shouldn't be too hard for you, right?"
"Exactly."
Without hesitating, Sheryl pulled out her phone and dialed a number, her voice dropping to a low hiss. "Yeah. Do exactly as I just told you."
Hanging up, she turned to Yolanda, suddenly laughing. "You really hate her, don't you?"
"A little."
Yolanda admitted freely, instantly leaning into her victim persona. "Ever since she showed up at my house, she stole all my grandfather's affection. And after she left, she just kept using her background to bully me."
"If this teaches her a lesson, it'll be good for her."
"Right."
Sheryl spun her phone on the bench. She didn't care whether Yolanda was telling the truth or not.
As long as they both hated Juniper, nothing else mattered.
"Let's grab drinks after the match," Sheryl offered—a rare "honor" reserved only for those she considered allies.
"I'd love to."
Yolanda beamed sweetly, immediately kissing up. "I'll even buy a cake to celebrate you taking home two gold medals."
It didn't take long for Sheryl to receive a confirmation text.
Everything was set.
Getting maliciously injured did.
"Are you even listening to me?" Hattie pouted, tugging anxiously on Juniper’s sleeve.
"Loud and clear."
Juniper offered a faint smile. She closed her game, shoved the phone into Hattie’s pocket, and casually adjusted her jacket. "Relax. I treat decent people decently. But when I'm dealing with monsters..."
"Huh?"
Hattie blinked, clutching the phone.
"When I deal with monsters, I become something far more terrifying," Juniper murmured softly, patting Hattie affectionately on the head. "Alright, time to go."
With that, Juniper picked up the racket the referee handed her and strode onto the court with long, confident steps.
Before the finals, the players were expected to exchange a polite greeting at the net.
"My racket doesn't have eyes, Juniper. With skin as delicate as yours, you’d better watch out."
Sheryl sneered, tilting her chin up to look down her nose at the other girl.
