Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1051

Shanley and Jimmie stood on the balcony, their voices deliberately hushed.

"I heard there's news about our parents?" Jimmie's expression was grave. "You haven't told Juniper?"

"Yeah." Shanley nodded, his gaze serious. "If you've seen the files at the Cybernetic Shadows base, you'd know exactly how dangerous these people are. If they're coming for her, stepping into the light would put her at massive risk."

Jimmie glanced back at his sister through the glass door. "She's sharp. You won't be able to hide this from her for long."

"I know." Shanley's lips curved slightly. "I don't plan to keep her in the dark forever, but there's just too much going on right now. If I tell her today, it'll only distract her." At the very least, he needed time to uncover their enemies' true motives and set his traps.

"Alright." Jimmie gave a curt nod and clapped Shanley on the shoulder. "Thanks for handling this."

"It's the least I can do." Shanley flashed a wicked, charming smirk. "After all, I am their future son-in-law."

"What if they don't like you?" Jimmie teased.

"Doesn't matter." Shanley raised an arrogant brow, his handsome face brimming with confidence. "If I managed to win over a girl as hard to get as Juniper, you really think I can't handle my future in-laws?"

"Don't worry, I'll put in a good word for you," Jimmie offered.

"Much appreciated."

They chatted for a little while longer before heading back inside.

"What were you two whispering about?" Juniper asked, her curiosity piqued. Were they hiding something from her?

"Just talking about our love lives," Jimmie smoothly lied with a warm smile.

"Oh?" Juniper chewed her food a little slower, blinking innocently. "So, you found out Shanley wants to set you up on a date with Luella Langley?"

"What?" Jimmie's smile instantly froze. He whipped his head toward Shanley.

"It was a joke! Just a joke," Shanley awkwardly chuckled, scrambling to explain.

Jimmie, true to his nature, went entirely pale.

"Well, good morning, Movie Star." Luella paused for a couple of seconds before greeting him with a teasing, sarcastic lilt. "In such a rush. You wouldn't happen to be hiding from me, would you?"

"Why on earth would I be afraid of you?" Jimmie took a step back, his spine hitting the doorframe. His voice betrayed his nerves.

"Maybe you're afraid I'm into you," Luella murmured, stepping closer until they were practically breathing the same air. She narrowed her eyes, a wicked smirk playing on her lips. "Don't forget, I like men. And a gorgeous, built guy like you is exactly my type."

To drive the point home, Luella deliberately licked her lips.

Jimmie's face burned hot. He practically choked on his own breath.

"If they start fighting, whose side are you taking?" Shanley asked, finding the whole spectacle highly entertaining.

"Can't I just watch the show?" Juniper blinked. They were both basically family to her; picking sides was out of the question. Enjoying the drama, on the other hand, made everyone happy.
