Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1321

"As for you wanting to be Executive Chief, no problem. I support you."

"What?"

Luella stood frozen, staring at Jimmie in disbelief. "Your career is at its absolute peak, and you'd quit Hollywood for me?"

"Jimmie, have you lost your mind?!"

"I don't even know why," Jimmie said, his Adam's apple bobbing. "I just thought, if you rejected me, I'd give up and go back to my old life."

"But knowing you were coming back to Stellara Country and planning to cut ties with me—I couldn't handle it."

He took a step closer, their shoes almost touching. The proximity was thick with tension. "Luella, I'm truly in love with you."

Not just a crush. Real, actual love.

"You..."

Luella hadn't expected his emotional artillery to be so devastating. She stood there, completely shell-shocked. "But the world thinks I'm a man. I can't marry you."

"Then we won't get married."

Jimmie's lips curved into a faint, easy smile. "If you want to be Executive Chief, go do it. I won't stand in your way. As long as I can be near you, I don't care if we never sign a marriage license."

"But..." Luella bit her lip, her voice dropping. "My path to becoming Executive Chief is dangerous. I could get taken out any day."

"And if people find out about you, you'd be..."

"I'm not afraid of dying." Jimmie grabbed her hands, his tone fierce. "If you're really going to die, then I'll just die right there with you."

"At least you'll have some company on the other side. Doesn't sound too bad to me."

Luella's throat tightened. Her eyes slowly turned red.

Aside from Juniper and Megan, Jimmie was the third person in her life willing to die for her.

"Are you sure about this?" Luella looked up, her eyes bright with unshed tears. "Do you even know if you like men or women?"

"I like you."

"Only Juniper knows about my real identity."

"Alright." Jimmie nodded, a smile playing on his lips. "Will you come back tonight?"

"Yeah."

Luella shot him a look. "Get some sleep. Your eyes are as red as a rabbit's."

Even for a guy this handsome, looking exhausted took a toll.

"And..." Luella pushed him back gently, looking him up and down with a frown. "Don't you dare quit the entertainment industry. If you go broke, I am absolutely not supporting you."

"Deal." Jimmie squeezed her fingers, his eyes overflowing with affection. "Whatever you say."

Luella felt a lump in her throat.

She really wasn't used to this pretty boy being so agreeable!
