Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1429

"Oh." Luella guiltily touched her nose and said on purpose, "So mean. I'm not marrying you."

"What?" Jimmie's face paled, visibly panicking. "If you don't marry me, who else are you going to marry?"

Juniper?

Don't even think about it. That old fox Shanley would murder without blinking.

"Pfft—"

Luella couldn't help but burst out laughing. Her cheeks flushed slightly as she gently swung the man's hand, whispering a reminder, "Let's go."

"Hmm?"

Jimmie was completely lost in the clouds, totally confused.

"If we head to City Hall now before they close, we can still make it," Luella teased. "Or do you want to just keep kneeling there forever?"

So did this mean his proposal was a success?

"Let's go!"

Jimmie immediately stood up, but because he had been kneeling for so long, his legs had gone to sleep.

A sharp pain shot up, and he immediately fell right back down to his knees.

Both of them this time.

Luella: Wow.

Two hours later.

Jimmie and Luella walked out of City Hall, holding two brand-new marriage licenses.

"Luella, I'll hold onto the licenses." Jimmie took the document from Luella's hands and tucked it into his suit's inner pocket alongside his own.

"Alright."

Though Luella was curious, she didn't ask too many questions.

"Shouldn't we celebrate?"

After safely stashing the licenses, Jimmie excitedly grabbed Luella's hand. "Today, we should..."

"You're right, we definitely should celebrate."

Luella suddenly realized something. She pulled her hand free, whipped out her phone, and dialed Juniper's number. "I haven't told Juniper yet!"

"Juniper!!!!"

"Good lord!"

Juniper had just finished class. Hearing the sheer excitement screaming through the phone, she nearly dropped the device.

"We're finally family!" Luella laughed cheekily, her voice practically vibrating with excitement.

What was this?

Was he just a stepping stone for her and Juniper to become relatives?

"Hmm?" Juniper blinked and said earnestly, "I don't mind at all, but what does Jimmie have to say about that?"

"Him?" Luella looked up at Jimmie. Yikes, his face looked absolutely terrible. She swallowed hard and whispered, "C-Can we?"

"What do you think?"

Jimmie pressed his thin lips together, his voice dark. "Ms. Langley, who is the person on that marriage license?"

Luella pointed at him.

"So who should you be celebrating with?"

Luella blinked, realization dawning on her. "Oh right. You're my husband now."

Jimmie smiled helplessly, wishing he could crack her little head open to see exactly what was going on inside.

Never mind.

He didn't need to open it; he knew for a fact it was completely filled with Juniper.

He was the husband, but Juniper was her true love.

Hmph. What a little heartbreaker!
