Why was she suddenly here?
Was this a confrontation?
Lorelei sat completely still, staring at the girl in disbelief.
She was exactly as Lorelei had imagined—absolutely gorgeous.
Youthful and vibrant, with eyes like bright, sparkling stars.
No wonder Harold liked her.
Even as a woman, Lorelei felt her heart skip a beat looking at her.
After offering a friendly greeting, Juniper noticed the woman was just staring blankly at her, entirely unresponsive.
What was going on?
Had her dramatic entrance terrified her?
Juniper grabbed her backpack, intending to pull out the greeting gift she'd brought.
But the moment she unzipped it, the hammer tumbled out first.
Tsk.
How annoying.
Juniper bent down, picked up the hammer, and looked at Lorelei. “You—”
“What are you trying to do?”
Lorelei's face lost even more color as she wheeled herself backward.
They were getting a divorce in two months anyway. There was absolutely no need for a violent confrontation like this.
“I'm not doing anything.” Juniper gripped the hammer, looking genuinely innocent. “I came specifically to see you today.”
“I know.” Swallowing the bitterness in her heart, Lorelei kept her voice steady. “Please, calm down.”
Juniper pressed her lips together. *Wow, she's feisty.*
Sure, her approach was a little eager, but she had really wanted to meet her.
She'd heard Lorelei was a fashion designer with incredible artistic talent.
More importantly, she was stunning.
She'd look absolutely gorgeous in a bespoke silk dress.
“I know you're anxious, but just wait a little longer.” Knowing she was the one currently occupying this girl's rightful place, Lorelei tried to remain as composed as possible. “Harold and I are divorcing in two months. The title of Mrs. Houston will be returned to you.”
Harold shook his head in amusement. He looked over at the still-shocked Lorelei and softly introduced them, “Lorelei, this is my youngest sister, Juniper Payne.”
Juniper Payne?
Hearing the name, it all clicked into place for Lorelei.
She had seen that name online, but never a picture.
Rumor had it that her fiancé had spent an exorbitant amount of money and effort to scrub every photo of her off the internet.
“Hi, Lorelei.”
Juniper's gaze rested on Lorelei's face, a slight upward curve to her lips. “Sorry about all that. Today, I was originally just trying to catch him cheating—uh, no, I mean, I sneaked over to see you. I didn't expect to make a fool of myself.”
“Catch him cheating?”
Lorelei paused for a few seconds, voicing her confusion.
“Yeah.” Juniper nodded. “Harold has been keeping you hidden away, so we were starting to suspect that the woman by his side was someone he couldn't show in public.”
“I came today to confirm it for myself.”
Juniper looked increasingly sheepish. “It's all that loose dirt's fault, otherwise I wouldn't have blown my cover.”
“So that's why you brought the hammer…” Lorelei stared at Juniper, her eyes crinkling slightly. She found herself really liking the girl's personality, and her tone softened considerably.
