Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1483

"I kissed you?"

Lorelei's breath hitched. Thinking back to the previous night, she vaguely remembered having a dream.

In that dream, she really had kissed Harold.

Her world collapsed.

Did she actually assault Harold in her sleep?

"I..."

Lorelei wanted to explain but didn't even know where to begin.

"I don't remember," she deflected, deciding to play dead. "I'm getting up."

"Hey—"

Just as she tried to roll over, Harold suddenly pressed her back into the mattress. His dark eyes locked onto hers fiercely. "Trying to run after doing something bad?"

Lorelei felt herself sinking into the whirlpool of his gaze. She clenched her fists, her chest rising and falling rapidly.

"I didn't mean to," she bit her lip, trying to explain. "I'll apologize, okay?"

"If apologies worked, what would we need the cops for?"

Lorelei furrowed her brow.

They weren't even divorced yet. So what if she accidentally kissed him?!

"I'll put it on your tab. You'll have to pay it back later." Harold tapped her delicate nose lightly with his finger.

He rolled off the bed, grabbed a fresh set of clothes, and handed them to her. "I'm taking a shower. You get dressed first."

Lorelei sat on the bed, listening to the sound of running water from the bathroom.

She touched the spot on her nose where he had just tapped her, her mind an absolute mess.

This couldn't be a hallucination.

At the dining table.

Everyone ate quietly, occasionally glancing across the table at the two of them.

Especially Luella. The terrible idea of giving them that specific nightgown was hers. She considered herself an 'expert' in the game of love. Whether man or woman, she only needed to chat with them for a few minutes to read their character. Let alone their love lives.

The way these two were acting screamed: they like each other, but they're being unbelievably awkward about it.

Why hadn't the catalyst worked?
