Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1494

"W-What?"

The shocks of the day were coming in waves, and Lorelei's mind was an absolute mess.

She couldn't comprehend it.

No.

It was more that she was terrified of misunderstanding his intent.

"Lori..." Harold held the girl's gaze, his voice low and serious. "Do you want to try looking at our marriage in a new light? Does it absolutely have to end in divorce?"

Lorelei's expression shifted slightly. Did he get into a fight with his childhood sweetheart? So, was she just his backup plan?

If he made up with her one day, would he just change his mind again and divorce her anyway?

"What do you mean?"

Lorelei pressed her pink lips together, her starry eyes searching the man's earnest face.

"I don't want a divorce anymore." Harold's Adam's apple bobbed, his voice husky. "Whatever you think I lack, I can change."

"You don't lack anything..."

Lorelei's mind went blank. She lowered her eyes, a wave of disappointment washing over her.

The only thing he lacked was enough love for her.

She figured Harold was probably just speaking out of a momentary emotional reaction.

Once he 'made up' with the woman in his heart, the divorce proceedings would still go on.

Forget it. She was done living so pathetically, trapping herself in the past.

A short while later.

The vehicle rolled to a stop, and the driver opened the door, speaking respectfully, "Sir, Madam, we've arrived at the Houston estate."

"Mhm." Harold stepped out, pulling Lorelei into his arms as they walked inside together.

"You're back?"

Spotting her son and daughter-in-law, Noemi immediately hurried over with a beaming smile. "Lori, I heard someone pushed you into a pool at the party. Are you alright?"

"I'm fine." Lorelei offered a soft smile. "Thank you for asking, Mom."

"That Vaughn family sure has some nerve, daring to touch a Houston!" Noemi grew more infuriated the more she spoke. "And they actually had the gall to call and beg for mercy earlier? Not a chance!"

Faulkner descended the stairs, glancing at the couple before stating firmly, "Harold, come with me to the study."
